hemorrhage. Francos Lena Gay lor, agetl
seven years, 11 months and 21 days.
Little Frances had been a great suffer
er for a mouth ami u week previous to
her death was tnken by her parents to
the hospital for treatment and care by
experienced nurses. The disease, how
ever, had secured too strong a hold to be
shaken olf and the little one passed away
on the nfternoon of the 9th,
The remains wero brought home to El
bert Friday and fuqeral services wore
held in the Presbyterian church Satur
day at 10 a. m., conducted by the pastor.
Rev. Powell. The members of the Jun
ior Endeavor society, of which littld
Frances was a member, were present in
a body, and many beautiful flowers cov
ered the little casket.
RESOLUTIONS OP SYMPATHY.
At a regular meeting of the W. R. C.
No. 29 the following resolutions were
passed:

sympathy to our sisters, Mrs. Belle Gny

Editor Tribune: The old comrades
here assisted by the ladies of the W. R.
C. and Circle fulfilled their duties to
wards their departed comrades (of which
there are 140 buried here) with very ap
propriate services both in our hall and at
tin- cemetery, every grave being decorat -
| ed with Old Glory, wreaths anti flowers.
Every comrade here had a buttonhole
bouquet which wore sent to them by the
ladies of Farragut Corps of Denver, and
I which proves that though we are isolated
I here in a soldiers' home, we havosympa
j thizing friends in the state, for which we
are happy' to return our thanks. Rev.
Mr. Wilcox of Colorado Springs was here
and helped in the exercises and Repre-
Isentativo Hogg delivered a speech. The
I weather was line except for the dust: it
j has been very dry here. It is now rain
ing, which is very much needed.
Comrade Stoddard of Elliort had the

Local Happenings
The next club dance will bo held on
Friday evening, June 24.
Miss t trace Grinin returned home to
Elbert Fridav. from Pueblo, somewhat
improved in health.
H. Miller, formerly railway agent at
Parker, was checked in Monday as agent
of the Elbert station.
Miss Amy Euler returned home last
week from Albion, 111., where she hns
been attending college during the past
year.
Frank McNamara, on the Rinncrt
place, south of town, has lfiO acres plant

yield all along the line.
Adam Scheider of Lake Gulch, who
has been in Elbert assisting his sinter, |
Mrs. John, in her business affairs, re :
turned to his home Inst Thursday.
Harry Lundy stepped on n rusty nail i
the other day, which penetrated the sob* i
of his shoe and a quarter of an inch into
his foot, making a painful wound.
Miss Ginrn lirnzelton returned Sunday
from Denver, where she has been attend
ing school. Her mother, who went up to
see her gruduutc, returned with her.
O. R. Long alighted on a small -tone
when he jumped from a buggy Saturday
and sprained his ankle badly. lie is
now getting around with the aid of a
cane.
Mrs. W. 11. Gntewood fell downstairs
at her home Saturday and sustained s«-
vero bruises. She is quite agetl, but it
is hoped nothing serious will result from
the fall.
C. E. Ilobart of Ratnah has accepted a
position with the Gates Mercantile com
pnny. Mr. Hobart's family arrived Wed
nosdny and will occupy the Mowroy cot
tage in the south pari of town.
Rev. Mr. Williams and family, of Den
ver, came out Tuesday and have taken
F. W. Schenk’s cottage at Edgowood for
the summer. Mr. Willinms is pastor of
Park Presbyterian church.
L. G. Jewell,Jiving between Elbert and
Elizabeth, loot a four year old gelding
from his pasture on Memorial Day, and
recent developments indicate that the
animal was stolen and taken out of the
country.
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Clark, who moved
from Elbert to Colona about a year ago,
have gone back to Desloge. Missouri. A
letter from Mr. (’lark, received nt this
oflico, stated that they were taking in the
big cx|>osition nt St. Louis.
The Sunday mail service, which was
abolished on this line of the Colorado A*
Southern about three years ago, was
again put on Inst Sunday, on train No.
17, going north nt 8:1ft in the morning,
ami No. 18, going south at B:b9 p. in.
Mrs. Lee Gammon and daughter Lora
returned from Glenwood Springs Sun
day, where Mrs. Gammon has been try
ing the baths for rheumatism. Her
many friends will he pleased to know
that she returned to her home feeling
much better.

Mrs. W. Handley and Mrs. Anna Or

of Colorado Springs, arrived on Wednes
day of last week and are visiting the
Denney family in Elbert and at the Long
home at Kiowa.
The Ladies* Aid society will give a
“hat" social on Friday evening, June 17.
in Odd Fellows hall. All ladies are re
quested to bring untrimmed hats for the
gentlemen to trim, which will be sold nt
auction. Strawberries ami cream) ice
uream, cake and coffee will be served.

The Children's Day exercises held at
the Presbyterian church Sunday were
very intyresting anti the program was
highly appreciated by all present. The
children were exceptionally well drilled
and the special music was very nice.
The exercises merited n much larger nu
dience than was present Sunday.
John Murray and J. F. Strachan, two
of our sulistantial ranchmen, were com
paring notes recently and found that
both were from the same district in Scot
hind, though they were not acquainted
in the old country. Since this fact be
came known these two Scotchmen have
beon having great times talking sl*»ut
people ami events in their native coun
try.
Ranchmen in this locality arc talking
about organizing u farmers' mutual hail
insurance company, to insure crops
against loss by hail. The Tribune be
lieves this is a move in the right direc
tion, and that such an organization care
fully inanngcd would save the ranchmen
of the Divide many dollars now going
into the coffers of “fake" hail insurance
companies throughout the land.

we suppose, from the fact that it appar

of a dead pine, but when placed in water (
for a few hours it gracefully unfurls j
itself into a b.-autiful green plant.

amending the election law regarding the'
election of commissioners, rends as fol-:
lows: “Two of the said commissioners
are to be elected at the general election I
in the year 1904, and at the general elec
tion every four years thereafter; and the |
other one of said commissioners shall bo

year 190 ft and at the general election ;
every four years thereafter.”

J. A. Boston last week unearthed the'
jaw lame of a mastodon or some animal j
of the prehistoric age, on his ranch just i
east of Elbert. Mr. (ioston discovered 1
the specimen- the left half of the lower
jaw bone, in a bank of earth, about fifty ;
feet below the surface. The bone is over 1
eighteen inches in length and the teeth
are ns perfect ns could be. The l>onr
and teeth are petrified. The lame is on
exhibition at the Tribune office and all
who have seen it pronounce it the best
and largest specimen they have ever
seen. Mr. Boston thinks there are more
hones of the animal where this came
from and will investigate further.
A very pretty wedding occurred this
morning at the parsonage of the English
Lutheran church in this city, when Mr.
A. \V. Sparkman, editor of the Calhan
News and postmaster at Calhan, and
Miss Sarah A. Nass, of Pittsfield, Ills.,
sister in law of W. A.-Pettey, vice presi
dent of the Russell Gates Mercantile:
