Local Happenings Mrs. Louisa Carver was a passenger nn Tuesday morning’s train to Denver. J. E. Mayor, cashier of the Elbert County Bank, was in Denver over Sun day. Mrs. Curt Dittemore visited friends in Colorado Springs the fore part of last week. Mrs. G. M. Bodett went to Denver Tuesday for a few days’ visit with friends. Thomas Cantril went to Denver Sat urday to see a brother, who was reported quite sick. Stephen Fisher and family moved this week to their homestead, east of the county seat. Taylor Green is able to bo outdoors again after a severe sick spell, but is pretty weak yet. Sam Taggart, county surveyor, went to Hill Top yesterday to make a survey for a new county road. . Miss Dora Maher of Deer Trail spent last week here visiting her sister, Miss Katie Maher, and friends. Mrs. May Corkett was elected secre tary of the school board in district No. 35 at last week's election. Georgo Gammon, of the Elbert Mer cantile company, was a passenger to Denver yesterday morning. A. G. Cornforth went to Denver Tues day to attend n meeting of the American Cattlo Growers’ association. Mrs. Minnie Paige and children of Col orado Springs were guests last week of Mr. and Mrs. Curt Dittemore. Albert Neuman is painting and im proving his store building occupied by vV. E. Davies, the harness man. Arkansas strawberries of excellent quality are now on this market and nro retailing at 12*£ and 15 cents a box. Mrs. Will Watts and children, of Mon ument, are visiting Mrs. Watts’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex. Brazelton, southwest of town. ' School closes next week for a vacation lasting until along in September. There will be appropriate closing exercises on the last day. School district No. 38, the first district southeast of Elbert, elected the following officers: President, J. W. Oaks; treas urer, John Baginski; secretary, Albert Schultz. Thirteen votes were cast. Friends of the Watts family have re ceived word from Manzanola that Mr. Watts’ condition has taken a turn for the better and that ho is slowly improv ing. It is thought he may now recover. Isaac 'Eplor of Denver was visiting his numerous relatives and friends in Elbert and nearby vicinity last week. He re turned to Denver Monday accompanied by Mrs. W.S. Epler and daughter Hazel. Mrs. Leo Gammon and children re turned to Colorado Springs Sunday, where they will remain until their de parture for California. Mrs. Gammon’s health is considerably improved this spring.
