And comrade faint and bleeding, in crowds mere hurrying past. He saw his young companions, the friends of earlier days, Retiring from the conflict, before the cannons blaze, He saw borne aloft all tatered, the ! stand and bare ensign, j The flag lie had carried, from near the I Kansas line. , A soldier stooped beside him, and rais ed his drooping head, When in feeble accents, the youthful soldier said, Farwell my friends and comrads, I bid you all adieu, Though you may shortly follow, I’ll ne’er return to you. With me the war is over, my marching is at an end, And tis a dying message, bp you I fain would send, To bear it to my kindred, and those dear friends of mine, For 1 have friends and kindred’ npon the Kansas line. I have an aged mother, you know that mother well, Bear to her those tidings, how I in battle fell, And tell her I remember, in anguish her advice. To live at home in quiet, not join the rebel price. Oh if I had but headed, the good ad - vice she gave, 1 need not now be hastening, to fill a rebels grave. But I heeded another consul, and left that home of mine. That home of peace and quiet, upon the Kansas line. There was a black beauty, I need not call her name, She lured mo from my duty, and fan - ned the rebel flame, She said no hand with bers, ever could unite, Uule&s it was found boldly, defending southern rights. Oh southern rights alas, I knew not what they were, I sacrificed my judgement, before the cannons blaze, 1 sacrificed my judgement, for this beauties magic shrine, And left my home of comfort, upon the Kansas line. But now his reason failing, the soldier ceased to speak, Upon the field of battle, where greek had met with greek, His life was made an offering, unto the god of war, His life was made an offering, Alas alas what for. $100 Reward, $100 The leaders of this paper will be pleas od to learn that there is at least one dreaded disease that science hos been able to cure In all its stages, and that is Catarrah. A determined effort is being made in the United States senate this winter to have adopted and sent to the state legis latures for approval an amendment to the constitution providing for the elec tion of senators directly by the people at the polls. A majority seems to favor it and its chance for passage is said to be good. Not so very long ago there was a pre Bistant demand in some quarters for laws guaranteeing the repayment of money deposited in banks. Not much is being heard of this measure at pres ent, but the supreme court of the Uni ted States, in a case from Oklahoma, has decided it to be constitutional. The Denver Field and Farm says speaking of Colorado “We sell all we can and can all wo can’t.” This is a little difference from the program of an other state, we forget which, where it is declared the people sell all they can, feed the hogs all they want and eat the rest themselves, but it amounts to the same thing, as they Anally eat tho bogs Church Notice Rev.
