VOL. XXXII NO. 38 Local and Personal George Garner was a Sunday visitor , in Denver. Mrs. John R. Hines of St. Louis Mo , is here visiting her sister in-law, Mr John Christian. Miss Lilly Lomeyer of Evansville, Ind , arrived here Tuesday for a visit with Mrs. J. C. Schmidt. She is on route to Salt Lake City. Sam Blakely, who disappeared from Elbert three years ago, was heard from recently in California, he having joined the militia to go to Mexico Mr. John Flinu was in Denver, Sun day, to see Mrs. Flinn who had been taken to the hospital a week ago. Her couch tion gives her friends considerable un easiness. Mrs. A. Z. Harmon arrived home Mon day evening from Mn<|Uoketa, lowa, where she had been for several months i staying with her mother and taking j Osteopath treatments. Her health i considerably improved. Mrs, John Hoover and family returned from their auto trip to Indiana. Sunday evening, having had an enjoyable time. They report it very wet in that state, so much so that it interfered with farm work, and that they did not got into tin dry section until they reached Topeka, Kans. Mr. and Mrs.'J. E, Barnes left Sunday morning for a two months absence, and while away will visit Mrs. Barnes’ mother at -Beattie, Kans., and go from there t-« St. Joe and thence to Excelsior Springs, Mo., where J. E. will test the eflleacy of the waters at that place for kidney complaint. l\ C. Berryman, an o’d and highly re spected citizen of this section, was buried in Elbert, Sunday, having died at a Col orado Springs hospital last Friday. He was the father of Wni. Berryman and Mrs. Florence Gleason. Wo expected an obituary of the deceased but failed to receive it. While returning from ColoradoSpring one day last week Harvoy Cornforth and family had a narrow escape in < rossing a bridge in El Paso county which was being repaired. Three boards had been removed from the floor of the bridge and without any warning from the workmen or danger signals being displayed, h.- was on the structure before he saw it condition, but got over the opening on the stringers. Harvey has no desire to repeat the experiment. It was n case of gross carelessness on the part of the workmen in not having danger signaL displayed or the bridge closed to traffic. Shreve of Boulder, the mother and uncle of Prof. Kote, visited in Elbert over tha Fourth. i Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Cornforth spent several day fishing in Goose creek, where they had fine success in catching the tinny tribe. Mrs. George Garner and the children left la.-st Friday morning for Bladen, Neb., to visit a sister and her father, whose health is very poor. The Grange picnic was all, and in fact more, than its promoters expected it would be, the large crowd present hav ing tlio time of their livos. Louis Bigg reached here from Fowler, Colo., Sunday afternoon and will remain a week. Mrs. Riga’s health is much Letter than when she lived here. They report extremely hot weather in that section and very dry in tho non-irrigated portions. A meeting of the Elbert County Fair association is called to meet in the W O. Evans, her brother. This is tho first time she has visited him in thirty years. One of Charles Everett’s boys was badly cut by a mowing machine.
