Among those chil dren was one named Joan, the daughter of good and honest people. In Joan’s childhood, France was un der a mad king. Chrales VI, and was torn asunder by two factions, the party of Burgundy and the party of Dunois. The English took advantage of these disputes and overran the land. Charles VI was killed, so his youngt a brother, Charles VII, took the throne. Still there wasbltterness between the countries. Peteroen of Elizabeth, now a member of the 158th Machine Gun Company stationed at Camp Kearney, California, and who is home on a short furlough, was here Monday in company with hia mother attend ing to some business matters at the court house. Deputy Sheriff Geo. Fahrion arrest ed Frank Young near the old Twileg er ranch near Deer Trail last Monday 'on a vagrancy charge. Mias Alma Rogers of Denver spent , the week-end at the home of her old chum, Mrs. Harry Talbott. John Beneke and son Clayton left yesterday morning for St. Louis, Mo. They are traveling overland by auto. John said before leaving that he did not expect to engage in any line of business for the present and expected to spend some time in visiting rela tives and friends of hi 8 boyhood days, neither of which he has seen for a great many years. We hate to loose them fromamongst us foj' their places will be hard to fill and some commu nity i« going to benefit by ourloss. Lou Rinker went to Denver Sun day after his family.. Since under going an operation some time ago, Mrs. Rinker, with the children had been visiting with relatives in Den ver and adjacent points. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mcllhenney and Mr. and Mrs. Juno Fahrion were visiting the home folks during the week-end. These two fine young fellows, since findingthemseves each a wife, in the eastern part of ( the county, have seldom played on the home grounds and wo greatly appreciate it when they condescen ded to pay us a visit. ELIZABETH ITEMS: Miss Bertha Skrivanek returned home this week after spending a week in Denver visiting her friends. Mias Mary McCleary was over from Franktown for the dance Saturday evening. Mis a McCleary now’ has a position wLL the Hairy Smith real estate firm of Parker. Miss Elsie Evans returned from Den ver Tuesday evening where, she had been attending institute. The Grant Bentley family has moved into the Brooks house, which wn.s formerly occupied by B. F. Rico and family. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Goddard left Saturday for their home at Phillips burg, Kansas, after a short visit with Mrs. Goddard’s sHter, Mrs. Nelli-' Myers. Mrs. Myers accompanied them as far as Denver. Mrs. Susie Haines vlßited at the Frank Garland home last week. C. H. Sherwin, who recently came here from Burlington, took a trip to Elbert and Kiowa the latter part of last week and was very much pleased with the country, especially the large, well-improved ranches along Running creek and Klowd creek. Mrs. Fightmaster of Denver is vis i'ing her sister, Mrs. Roy Davidson, this week. Airs. Mrs. Charman accom panied them as far as Elbert where she spent a few days visiting the Brazeltons. Mart Charman went to Elbert Sunday evening where he had a few ’ days carpenter work to do. Saturday evening, June 22nd, the 'Lower Running Creek Grange will give a box social and dance at their hall at Schley.
