] A 8 we are going to have the oppor

‘ joying a beautiful entertainment by
Miss Hutzel’s expression class, it will
1 be interesting to know what Mrs.
Helen Grenfall, who has recently rc
ttimed from a tour thru the war zone,
has to say concerning Joan of Arc.
Remarking on the beautiful spirit
displayed by the French, Mrs. Gren
fall speaks of the statue of Joan or
Arc. A superstitution prevails among
the French soldiers that as long an
the statue stands victory Is *thelrs.
And only one object in the entire
city of Rheima, she says, stands un
scathed by the furious German as
saults and that is the statue. As the
French go smiling and cheering into
battle their cry is for their country
and their Joan of Arc.

Synopsis of “Joan of Arc.“
Over 500 year 8 ago, the children of
Domremy, a little village in Franco,
used to sing and dance around abeau
jtiful fountain which was haunted by
wicked fairies. Among those chil
dren was one named Joan, the
daughter of good and honest people.
In Joan’s childhood, France was un
der a mad king. Chrales VI, and was
torn asunder by two factions, the
party of Burgundy and the party of
Dunois. The English took advantage
of these disputes and overran the
land. Charles VI was killed, so his
youngt a brother, Charles VII, took
the throne. Still there wasbltterness
between the countries.
When Joan was about twelve years
old, a voice came to her from God,
telling her to go to France and save
her crountry from ruin—her king
from a disgraceful death.
Earl Dunois, a cousin o£ Charles
VII came from Normandy to aid him
in obtaining his kingship,
j No gold existing in Charles’ treas
ury, his foster sister, Lady Agnes
gave all her wealth to him in order
I hat h e might support his armies.
Lady LaHire, brought the sad tid
ings of disaster to Charles. She told
him of the crowning of Harry Lan
caster; and how his mother Queen
Isabel! turned against him. In the
.meantime Joan had won many great
battles for the French and it was
through her that Charles Vil receive,!
his ftingshkp.
People regarded her a 8 an enchan
tress and said her Inspirations were
not true. She was sentenced to death
pnd was burned at the stake In the *
market place.
