Most companies are made up of n singer, violinist and reader, but this company consists of a harpist, violinist and soprano. This combination permits of many en semble numbers and the versatility of the artists making up the company permits of great variety. It la truly a delightful little company of delight ful little people with a delightful big program. Madame Blngsdorf, the soprano, has a voice of rernnrkahle range and sweet ness. She has studied much and has MADAME LILIAN RINGSDORF. With Lilian Ringsdorf Concert Co. wonderful voice control. Her reper toire Is large and covers a range from Ihe difficult, highly technical aria to the soothing lullaby. Miss Dorothy Bible Is the violinist. She Is a daughter of the Keystone state and knows her instrument well. No concert company would be com plete without the violin. It is the queen of musical instruments and MISS DOROTHY BIBLE. With Lilian Ringsdorf Concert Co. when placed In the hand of nn artist becomes the incarnntlcn of the god dess of music. The old complimen tary expression Is especially applicable to Miss Bible. She can make her MISS MARIE McADOO. With Lilian Ringsdorf Concert Co. violin “talk.” Her selections are pleasing and range from the difficult Hungarian dances to the beautiful serenades. THE RINGSDORF CO. WILL BE IN ELBERT OCT. 23. NEWS FROM FRANCE. r France, Sept. 7,1918. My dear Mother and all. It is a beautiful Sunday morn ing, with no place to go and no drill, so will write a few lines. I am in the best of health, and feel just as safe here, as I did in the good old tJ. S. A. France certainly is a beautiful country, and 1 don’t blame the peo ple for trying to keep the Huns hack. •The French people seem- awful queer to us, and have got queer ways but are sure fine people, after a person learns their ways. The peo ple are limited in food stuff in this country, ns you are on sugar In the U. S. We had a fine trip on the boat, and but very few' were sea sick. Wc had fine weather all the way. and was in one of the largest boats In the convoy, so it did not seem very rough sailing. We did not see any submarines, although we wore well guarded against them. One night when we were in a rest cainp. wc could hear big guns roar ing from the front. 1 am writing only on one aide of this paper on account of censor, ns they would cut It all up. Well. I will close for this time, hoping this will find you in the best of health as I am. Don't worry about me. as I am Just as safe here as if I were at home. Goodbye. Your loving son. Ralph Baldwin Sept. 12. 1918 Dear Mother and all. Will try again to write n few lines. News Is awful scarce that is anything we would he allow ed to write. We are camped In a small town, and go on short march es. and have our drill every day. Our company marched out In the country a few miles one day last week to see a large castle that had been built In the 13th century It had Just been re-modeled before the war started They say it coot over a million dollars to fix it up again. There was a high wall around it. with the moat between the wall and the castle. Wc could see bullet holes and places where arrows had struck In battles of old en times. I went to a cemetery last night after supper. It is in the church yard, close to where wt are camp ed. It is one of the most beautiful places 1 have ever seen. All the graves and monuments are decorat ed with flowers made of different colored beads. Some of the monu ments wero dated back over two hundred years nnd were kept as if they wero only six months. There are lots of grape vineyards here and wine seems to be the chief occupation of the people. There is a good deal of truck gardening done here, but all the people live in small towns and have no fences, Just herd their cattle and goats in small bunches. We stopped In one town over night, which they said was built In the year one hundred and elev en. All the buildings are made of stone and if there is a frame build ing, It has been built since the war began. Well I will ring off for this time, hoping this will find you all well. Your loving son.
