SOME INFORMATION ABOUT OUR ROCKY MOUNTAIN CATS (Continued from Preceding Page.) A lynx-cat, caught in a trap, then roped and taken to the ranch yard where he was kept tied for sometime. freezes unlees some meaps Is devised to prevent it. The shrewdest and largest rat I ever caught was an old female with two kittens. The trio had killed a small deer In some deep snow and. from their tracks, ■were feeding upon the carcase during the night. Only one trap was eet the first, night. The next morning the trap was found "sprung - ’ but having in its jaws the foot of a kitten. This was unusual, and search soon revealed that the mother and re maining kitten had killed and par tially eaten the one trapped; gnawed It* foot off at the trap, and burled the remains In a pile of twigs and pine needles some fifty feet from the car cass of the deer. The following night the aacond kitten was caught only to be killed by Ita mother and burled bealde the first. The third night two heavy traps were set but the parent had evidently "wieed up”—they were found sprung the next morning and turned bottom side up. On the fourth night a trap waa set both at the deer oarcaas and the kittens grave and frozen Into a small pit with water from a near by stream. Reward fol lowed. mama cat was safely caught.
