The members of Las Vegas hose com pany No. 2, held a meeting yesterday, and concluded that thanksgiving was loo early a date for a public demonstra tion and postponed the ball and parade to a future date to be hereafter named. The partv given at Chas. Ilfeld's Monday night in honor of Noah Ilfe'd and bride, was a ytry pleasant atl'air. Noah goes to Santa Fe, where he will be treated in a like manner, and thence to Albuquerque, where he will be given a rousing send ofTon the journey of life. Truly the happy couple arc having a gay time. fi Fi 11 la Pairarla (aaljr. Last evcaing we met a republican Mexican from a'.encia county, and afur a few minutes' pleasant that cm the current topic cf the day. we ven tured to inquire in regard to electioa fraud in lis county. To .ive our read er a clearer K:a i me siiuauon we pub!ih a synopsis of our interview, not giviuthe name of our informant. In answer to the qmMlon, was there any frauds committed? He answered "ye: and although I voted fr Luna, I ( annot countenance such barefaced trickery as was ued to carry our county f'r him." The old gentleman wa boiling with indlguatien, ami we waited for him to cool down a little when we put tho fol lowing question: "Can you tell us the name of auy precinct where illegal voting was done, and. if so, to what extent?"' "Yes; I could mention several, but as I have no interest at stake, I do not care to meddle with politics, but do not think that over t.Oil legal votes were cast, as yoting was light at all the po'ls In the precinct where I resille I did not vote until sun-down and was No. ten (10) on the list, yet about four hundred votes were returned." Then we asked: "How did they get such a large registration list?'' "I cannot tell you. but I know that most of the registering was done after the polls were opened, and I saw suv eral persons register and vote a few moments after." Won't you give the name of at least one precinct whero fraud was com mittcd, we pleaded. With a great deal of reluctance he said: "If you will promise not to ask me any more questions abont this disagree able matter 1 will tell you where the biggest fraud was perpetrated." We assured the intelligent old gentle nun that we would leave and trouble him no more. "In the precinct of Rito Quemado,1' ha answered, "I do not think there are over thirty voters, and about six hun dred were returned. This was bno by subdividing the precinct, so as to make three different precincts of it. This part of the county has always been noted for biliot-box stuffing, bul I think this is the worst case I hat h:is ever hap pened there." Thanking ths honest old man for ihu kindness shown to a weary faber pusher. we wended our way to the old .town, meditating over the sinfulness of the New Mexican politician. Hnrriiiue of Ili i iini-il Homero and liiicrciiit leln1;. Tho New Mexican of Sunday hail tho following account of the marriage of Bernardo Remero anil Lueeeila Delga do at Santa Fe on Saturday last. The nuptials took placa in the plaeita of the residence of Dona Trinidad Lu cero de Delgado, mother of the young lady. The scene presented was at ouce attractive and novel. Tho plaeita had been converted into a largo hall, nicely floored, brilliantly lighted and comfortably heated. A profusion of bunting set oil' the apartment to ad vantage, and tUe gay throng furnished all that was needed to make the scene spirited, and ensure the enjoyment ot all present. The ceremony was simple, and according to the riles f tho Catho lic church. The onlv attendants upon the bride and groom were Don Hilario Romero and his wife The bride was arrayed in white satin, and the groom looked his handsomest, in full dress. After the ceremonial, and when the company had tendered their congratu lations, dancing was indulged in for a number of hours, at the conclusion of which time the happy throng disperse!, carrying away memories to be recalled in years to come as pleasant reminders of the past. The families of the bride and groom being of the best society of Las Vegas and Santa Fe, all of the leading people among the Mexicans of the two cities were present, while an unusual number ot American ladies and gentlemen were in attendance. A reporter also observed several persons from abroad, who were highly enter tained and interested by tli 3 splendor f the occasion. Among others were several English people, now visiting Santa Fe, one an editorof the old coun try, Mr. Brunley, while Mr. Baxter, of the Rosten Herald, and ono or two other scribes, were "lookers-on in Ven ice." The wedding was altogether a fine, afl'air, and will be remembered as such for years to come in Santa Fe. Kplnlil Ranch for Bal. By notice in another column It will be seen that the ranch of Geo. W. Gregg, in Mora county, will be sold on Decem ber 23d at the depot at Watrous to sat isfy a mortgage in favor of Louis Sul bacher, esq. This is a line property, formerly a stage station in the La Junta valiey and but a (hurt distance from the depot at Watrous. Parties desiring to purchase a ranch or farm cannot do better thau to purchase this one. It has many conveniences. n order to This is no catch-penny advertisement, but an actual fact. The board of health and a number of pUysicLans met Monday evening at the director's room of the First National bank. They discussed the subject of the health of the city and the !st means to prearnre it. The sraallpux was found to be not nearly so danger ous as many people had been I'd to aj- prehend; only eight cases now cxi-t in the city and they are fully under the control of the authorities and the dan ger of spreading is greatly diminiiht d. 1 ao Vaccination is bciag uroceeded with in a mot satisfactory manusr, and all were hopeful of speedily stamping out this disease. In lies of the winternow upen us, it w as thought best to provide a good and comforfable hospitable for the sick, and for this purpose Jeíu non Ilaynohls was asked to confer with Mr. Wheelock and obtain an estimate of the cost of such a building as would be de sirable. Mr. Wheelock made tho proper estimate jesterday and con struct ion will be begun at once. A very pleasant surprise party was tiny. had last evening at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Mendenhall on the occasion of tho Cftecuth anniversary of their wedding. A number of friends proceeded quietly to the house and re minded thorn that they were still re membered. The host and hostess were fully equal to the occasion and made evervthing most enjoyable for their vis itors. Messrs. BolTa and De Cunto fur nished the music and the evening was passed with dancing, carda and conver sation, lue following persons wero present: Mr. and Mrs. Cooley, Mr, and Mrs. P. Loon, Carrie Leon, Dr Skipwith, J. C. Blake, M. It. Griswold Charles Brumlcy and Mr. Ring. Mrs Mendenhall served an excellent luuch with hot coffee, at eleven, to which am pie justice was done. It is often asked if Mr, Manzanares will contest the election. It can just be set down as an accomplished fact that if Mr. Luna insists on having four thou sand majority counted for him from Valencia county, the election will I contested. Otherwise it would be per fectly useless to hold an election in the territory. Nothing more, would be re quire! than to find out who Valencia county wanted and that would settle it. It is likely, however, that Mr. Luna will not insist on haying s-uch a majority counted for him from Valencia. It iloas not look possible that any one would seriously contemplate such a fraud. Judge Axtell sustained the writ of mandamus to compel the commission ers of Saata Fe county to count the vote of the precincts which were thrown out. That is right. We oppose this thing of taking advantage of technicalities to defeat the fair vole of the people. The precincts should have been counted in the first instance. Technical irregulari ties should not defeat lin honest vote, but on the other hand a violent fraud, as iu Valencia county, should not be protected, however regular the pro ceedings may be after the fraud u com mitted. Caney, the man who was ordered out of this cil v, is having a hard time of it iu the southern coiinlrv. At Wallace hn was bouni.tül and pleading povorly was given five dollars to help luni on his way. At Albuquerque he fared worse 011 account of his getting attach ed to some one else's blankets, and he now pines behind the walls of a prison thinking of tne days when he lived high and drank good whisky at the expense of the citizens of Las Vegas. While J)r. Cunningham is gone on his trip to Zacaetn-", Dr. Allen will look after his patients. Dr. C. has now a fine opportunity to make a desirable trip, and naturally enough will take ad vantage of it. Las Vegas is his home, however, anil he will return as soon as he can make tho rounds. When a man tells us about walking five miles on sheep they being so close together that he could not touch ground, we are inclined to doubt feis statement. It was not Powell who re lated the above but ho can beat it if called upon to do so. The Las Vegas Light Guards held a meeting last night and decided t-3 only have one drill a week, t be held cn Tuesday nights. The beys are becom ing quite proficient in Ilia manual ot arms abd are ready for a tilt with any company in the territory. Dr. . 11. II. Longwill, of Santa Fe, published a card in the Gazi-.tte yes terday morning denying that he had any conversation with John Florence, of Mora county, in relation to the Val encia county business. A typographi cal error made the doctor's name read 11. A. instead of 11. II. Longwill. The first mortgage on the Denver and New Orleans railroad, to be constructed to Las Vegas and through the eastern portion of the county, was received yes terday by J.
