Page Four simple faith I DURING THE PAST YEAR, the Good Lord has guided your Tribal Council wise ‘ ly and has made the past twelve months very beneficial for the White Mountain Apache Tribe. At the beginning of 1962, the Tribe did not have the funds to construct the new sawmill; the Colorado Fuel & Iron Company had not determined definitely to continue its mineral exploration program; the Hawley Lake winter sports project had not materialized, and the Tribal construction program was just start ing to become an economically efficient operation. Now, through the efforts of Secretary Udall, Commissioner Nash and other leaders who are vitally interested in the White Mountain Apache Tribe, the saw mill completion scheduled too distant The mineral exploration program is being intensified with drilling operations A m ■A A r continuing for another two years. The Hawley Lake winter sports area is in the B I ■ B J ■ I I I V final stages of planning with work scheduled to start in the coming months. The 1 ribal construction enterprise is firmly established and forging ahead rapidly. And the first newspaper in the history of the White Mountain Apache Tribe has brought favorable comment from people all over the nation. In addition, the new Alchesay Fish Hatchery has been dedicated, a project that has been long awaited. None of these things could have developed without the cooperation of the members of the White Mountain Apaches. We members of your Tribal Council know that some of our Apache people do not understand why we are not moving ahead faster and why more Apaches YOUR TRIBAL COUNCIL are not employed on different jobs. Your Council is striving continuously to develop programs that will provide these opportunities. Unless our enterprises are staffed with efficient help, they will fail and the Tribe will lose money. Worse, there will be no job opportunities for the Apache people. We do not WILLIAM TENIJIETH MARY V. RILEY intend to let this happen! Councilman Councilivoman While the benefits that have accrued to the Tribe in the past months have Whiteriver East Fork been many; we have had our sorrows. One of the great losses to the Tribe was the transfer of our beloved A1 HOMER BEATTY MARY G. RILEY Hawley, former Superintendent who was elevated to a new and higher position. Councilman Councilivoman We wish him well and hope that he will return to visit us at every opportunity. Cedar Creek Seven Mile But we are pleased with his successor, a man who has done much for the Apaches in the past few years, Robert E. Robinson, our new Superintendent. KENNETH CROMWELL ARTHUR GORDON We offer our full cooperation to him and know that he is working for the Councilman Councilman entire Tribe and that only through team work with the Bureau can the Tribe Whiteriver Carrizo continue to make progress. Our prayer for the new year of 1963 is that Almighty God will grant us the IDA EARLY LYDU HARVEY wisdom and integrity to carry out the duties of our Tribal Council offices; so that Councilivoman Councilman our people will continue to raise their standard of living, will continue to cooperate Cibecue North Fork with us in our forward movement and will continue the strengthening of their moral and spiritual fibre.
