Lutherans Slate Christmas Activities WHITERIVER During the week before and the week after Christmas the Whiteriver Luth eran Church is the scene of many varied activities. First it is the Annual Ladies Aid Christmas party, which was held on Tuesday, December 18th this year. Invited to this party are the members of the Ladies Aid and also all the el derly Apache women of the Congregation and their hus bands. After a brief opening devotion, games are played, Christmas decorations are made from such odd bits of ma terial as egg shells, pine cones, tin cans and tin foil. Unmarked gifts brought by the ladies are exchanged and the party ends with refreshments for all. Following this it is the Adult TO: THE WHITE MOUNTAIN APACHE INDIANS AND ALL OTHER NAVAJO COUNTY VOTERS ON THE WHITE MOUNTAIN APACHE INDIAN RESERVA TION Your splendid support of me in the General Elec tion, which resulted in my election as Judge of Navajo County, was greatly appreciated. SHELLEY Bible Class that meets to fill the 350 Vz pound boxes with candy, chocolates and nuts which are given to the children of the con gregation. Then the Junior Bi ble Class takes over to rehearse the favorite songs of Christmas and plan for their night of car oling. Their plans this year included the homes of members and friends and the wards and rooms of the U.S.P.H. Service Hospital. In addition, the Sunday School teachers prepare and wrap presents for the 170 plus children of the Sunday School. Following the regular service on December 23rd the Church becomes a beehive of activity for only about 24 hours remain The Fort Apache Scout Cattle Sale Draws Crowd BARBECUE FOLLOWS ACTION CANYON DAY An estimated 400 visitors flocked to the new Tribal sale yard near Whiteriv er last month for the annual fall sale of the Canyon Day Live stock Association. Buyers from California, Tex as and throughout Arizona were on hand to bid on the 872 head auctioned off at the morn ing sale. Gross sales for the event to taled $116,734.42 with the best prices being paid for yearling steers. Average weight on the steers was 624 lbs. with the average sale price being in the neigh borhood of sl6l. The sale, which started at 10 a.m., ended exactly at noon and the crowd remained to attend the huge barbecue served at the sale site. in which to raise and trip the 22 foot spruce which has been do nated by a member, and place the more than 200 blue bulbs. The stable and manger must be set up and all the rest of the church decorated in keeping with the real meaning of Christ mas. Christmas Eve at the Luth eran Church in Whiteriver has been looked upon for more than 35 years as the cumulation of all the feelings and antici pations.
