2 THE SUIT OF LIFE IF SEA THE VESSELS THAT MUST BY LAW BE INSPECTED— MUCH GOOD ACCOMPLISHED. Recently rresident Roosevelt sent to tbe senate the report of a commis si <0 appointed by him to make an examination of the laws of the Uni ted states enacted for the better se curity of life at sea, with a view to their better adaptation to present needs. The report is in the form of a bill embodying a systematic rear rangement and codification or existing laws, together with such changes and amendments as past experience and a consideration of present day conditions seem to require. The president asked congress to give the bill careful con s’ derav.on. Subject to Inspection. All steam vessels and all motor vessels tarrying passengers for hire are made subject to Inspection. Also ail other steam and motor vessels of snore than thirty-five feet .between perpendiculars are Included among the vcsstls that require Inspection by this service. Instead of limiting inspec tion to sail vessels of seven hundred gross tons, all Bail vessels of three hundred gross tons are to he Inspect ed. and sueh sail vessels of fifty gross tons or over a*-- catty passengers for hire .are to he Inspected. There Is no doubt that this is a good Idea and should be made a law. ne steamboat Inspection service is held to a greater or lesser extent Vt the fafety of the lives of passengers carried by water traffic, and the in spection laws should be made to In clude every boat of any tonnage that carries passengers for hire, as this is the best way of safeguarding the liver of those who travel by water. What is Needed. The careful Inspection of even- boat and all boats that travel the ocean, evep if they only go two or more miles from shore, should he provide ! with a system of wireless telegraphy that would enable them lo he In con stant communication with land would make travel by water the most safe and Becure mode of travel. Evtn as it Is today, the loss of lives by raili.ui' accidents. In the past year, is appail ing, while the accidents and loss or fives by water Is rapidly diminishing each year. This shows the good re sults obtained by Inspecting steam vessels. It Is believed that such an extension of Its wore, a work for which the sfrv!c° is well would Immediately Justify it-elf bv a still greater reduction in the nrmher tf marine accidents, and would tend fo make the United States pre emi nently the greatest nation on earth In guarding the lives of all those who travel by wat.r, y FOIEfSHOW^F H li! --AND TIMBER GO, MANUFACTURERS, SHIPPERS AM DEALERS IN CROSSTIES AND LUMBER. VICTOR POLETES PROPRIETOR. THE BRUNSWICK DAILY NEWS. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY Ift, ISO 9. You Are 1 his is a view of the laboratory in Lynn, Mass., in which Lydia E. Pinkham’s Vegetable Compound is made. There is a sign 5 feet long and 2$ feet wide attached, permanently, to the front of the main building which reads as follows : Public inspection invited —from 8 A.31. to 4 P.M. Lydia E. Pinkham Medicine Cos. What does this sign mean ? It means that public inspection of the laboratory and methods of doing business is honestly desired. It mean.-, that there is nothing about the Pinkham business which is not “openan 1 above-board.” It means that a permanent invitation is extended to anyone to come and verify the statements made in the advertisements of Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. Is Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetal,le Compound made exclusively from roots and herbs ? Come and See for Yourself. l)o the women of America continually use as much of it as we are told ? Come and See for Yourself. Was there ever such a personas Lydia E. Pinkham, and is there any Mrs. Pinkham now to whom sick women are asked to write ? Come and Sec for Yourself. Is the vast private correspondence with sick women conducted by women only, and arc the letters kept strictly confidential ? Come and See for Yourself. Have they really got letters from more than a million women ? Come and See for Yourself. Have they proof that Lydia E. Pinkham’s Vegetable Compound has cured thousands of these women ? Come and Hee for Yourself. This advertisement is only for doubters. The great army of women who know from their own personal experience that no medicine in the world equals Lydia E. Pinklvam's Vegetable Com pound for female ills will still go on using and being benefited by it ; but the poor doubting, suffering woman must, for her own sake, be taught confidence, for she also might just as well regain her health.
