H. Walker Dexter came up la9t night ftom St Simon, where he is at work on the electric bell system of the hotel. Manager Jack Olancey went to St. Simon yesterday to take charge of the work of preparing the hotel for the summer season. Tom Turner left at Thk Times of fice yesterday a curiosity in the shape of a radish, which is almost an exact copy of a human form. The steamer Bache sailed yesterday for New YorK, and on arrival will re main in the navy yard until there is another call for her services. Both the Riant System and the Southern have announced a round trip rate of one fare to Brunswick for Memorial day and a crowd of visitors is expected. The hack driven by Jonas Hall, col ored, while turning from F into New castle street last night at 7:30, broke down, both rear wheels falling to pieces. The St. Simon Euchre club was very pleasantly entertained at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Wright, St. Si nnn, Wednesday evening. Sixteen guests were present. Mrs. A. C. Douglass, of Leliaton, mother of Mr. R. V. Douglass and Mrs. J. B. Davis, of this city, is quite ill at her home. Mrs. Davis left Wednesday evening to attend her. General Henry R. Jackson contem plates moving to Atlauta, or at least spending a large part of his time there during the next six months, in connection with the work of the Su wanee Canal company. Captaiu Cummings, of the Thelma, returned yesterday from Asheville, N. G. Ho will have a preliminary hearing on the charge of criminal libel preferred by Dr. A. A. Rowland, in a few days. A decision from the supreme court in the Newman case, testing the slate law relating to the clftsing of saloons on election day, is expected shortly. Judge Whitfield argued the case for Captain Newman before the supreme court on Monday. The entertainment to be given to night by the Little Laborers of the King’s Daughters will be a brilliant and beautiful spectacular perform ance and will have a very uuique fea ture in the Lilliputian wedding. It will be well worth seeing. In publishing the orders for the Memorial day parade yesterday morn ing Thk Times inadvertently made an error. Lieut. C. A. Taylor should have been named as adjutant and Coxswain R. B. Tupper as sergeant major of the First battalion. Henley Clears. The British steamship Henley cleared yesterday for Bremen. The llenley has a cargo of 5251 bales cot ton and 1800 tons pig iron valued at $208,348, from the Brunswick Ter minal company, she will probably sail today. The feilowiug were offered and adopted : By Alderman Fendig— Be it Resolved by the mayor and aldermen of the city of Brunswick, in council assembled, That the mayor of said city be authorized and directed to sign, seat and deliver, in the name and in behalf of the mayor and coun cil of the city of Brunswick, quit claim deed dr deeds to the true and lawful owner or owners of all property, the title to which has been derived (and w.hich same is now owned) by the mayor and council for upon the payment by such owner or owners of the taxes due on the said property with all costs paid out by the city on said property, together with interest at the rate allowed by law on tax sale property, provided said property is redeemed within ninety days trom the date of this resolution. Beach in payment for 25,685 bushels of shells: One noteat four (4) months time for $32106; and one note at eight (8) months time for $321.06, each bearing 8 per cent, in terest from date. By Alderman Butts — Be it, and it is hereby Resolved by the mayor and aider men of the city of Brunswick, in council assembled, That the following property, buildings Nos. 108)4, 603, 505 Gloucester street, and Nos. 326 and 328 Oglethorpe street, and No. 218 Grant street, Nos. 314 and 606 Rich mond street, and Nos, 602. 606, 920, 922, and 924 on Bay street and No. 220 A and timber on Bay lot No. 18, re ported in au unsanitary condition by sanitary inspector, and the same is referred to committee on sanitation for delluite action, in regard to the condemnation of said properly. By Alderman Abrams— Resolved by the mayor and aider men of the city of Brunswick in coun cil assembled, That the mayor of said city be, and lie is, hereby authorized and directed to execute and deliver to the county of Glynn in said state a deed of lease of and for that part of Queen square in said city lying north of Mansfield street and between Rich mond street on the east and Newcas tle street on the west, for a term of ninety-nine (99) years ;t lie said county to erect and maintain thereon a public court house, and tj pay into the treas ury of said city a yearly rental of ten dollars per year therefor. CITY ORDINANCE, NO. 50- An ordinance to assess, lew and collect taxes and jaise revenues for the support of the gov ernmcnt of the city of Brunswick for the year 1897, and to provide thereby means for the pay ment of the public debt of said city; to prescribe a penally for the violation of said ordinance and lor other purposes: Section 1. Beit, audit is hereby ordained by the mayor and council of the city of Brunswick, in council assembled, that for the purposes above recited,eaob and every person, firm or corporation, who owns within the corporate Hunts of the city ol' Brunswick any pioperty, whether real or personal, subject to taxation, under the laws of the slate of Georgia and ol said citv,shall make return theieof for taxa tion for'the year 1897, and pay the tax as here inafter provided. Section 2. Section 4.
