Floyd, an aged white man, living in this county, has a suit for damages against the Florida Central and Peninsular railroad, which will j prove interesting in its hearing. | F’loyd wanted to board the Southern! train at Everett several months ngo, to take a short business trip. lie al leges that a Florida Central and Pen insula train came up on the switch, shutting him off from the train he wished to board. He waited until his train was about to pull out, and then attempted to cross over the interven mg train by the way of a car plat form, .lust as he mounted the steps, he says, the train started with a jerk, and without giving any signal of warning. F’loyd was thrown to the ground, luckily escaping the wheels, but sustaining serious injuries from the force of the fall. He claims that he wt.s earning SIOO per month, and asks $5,000 damages, to reimburse him for time lost, and for pergonal injuries received physi cally. Col. R. Ernest Dart repre sents F’loyd. The Italian bark Prospero, 409 tons, arrived yesterday from I’alermo. Mrs. W. H. Berrie will leave tilts morning for Savannah, to be the guest of Mrs. B. H. Houston for some time The British bark Lindores Abbey, 832 tons, Capt, Clark, arrived yester day from Algoa Bay, to load from the Downing company. Mrs. Kate E. Dart and little son Regie, who have been living in Atlan ta for some time, will return to Bruns wick next week to make their home. Constable Denby took the five sail ors who deserted from the schooner Kelson Bartlett to the schooner in the sound yesterday. The schooner sailed as soon as the rebellious men were put safely aboard. Captain Risk, of the steamship Col orado, has reconsidered his determin ation to be transferred to the Galves- I ton line of steamers, and, to the de | light of his many Brunswick friends, j will remain on the Colorado. A line L. C. Smith shotgun is to be rallied at the store of Jeweler C. J. Doerllinger as soon as the requisite) number of chances are sold. The gun is of the very best quality, and will be a handsome prize to the winner. The oity clock will be here in two weeks. It is being made specially to order at the Howard factory, and will be of their very finest make. A spe cial man will be sent by the company to assist Jeweler Mott in putting up the big timepiece. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Strum, who have been tenting at St. Simon all the sum mer, came up from the island yester day, and are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Tilton, Mr. and Mrs. Strum were married at Hotel St. Si mon the first of the season. They will return to their home in Valdosta in a few days, WILL NOT BE HEARD. Motion for a Receiver Not to Come Up on Thursday. The motion for a permanent re ceiver for the Cumberland island company will not be heard by Judge Sweat on Thursday, as booked, Judge S. C. Atkinson, of counsel for the Bunkley heirs, informed a Timks man last night that the hearing would not occur on that day. Judge Atkin son would say nothing further in re gard to the case, and in reply to a question as to the deoision ot Mon day night’s conference, said that there was nothing in it for publication. It is believed that some agreement was reached at the conference, and that the matter will be happily ad justed without further process of the courts. TO REMOVE THE WEEDS. City Asks ike County for Assistance in the Work. Dr. J. A. Butts, representing the sanitary committee of the city coun cil, of which he is chairman, went be fore the county commissioners at yes terday’s meeting, and asked that the commissioners lend the assistance of some of the county convicts in clear ing the city streets of weeds. Dr. Butts stated that the city chain gang was now so small that it could not do the w'ork successfully. The commissioners assured the alderman that they would be glad to give the city such assistance as they could, and wrnuld advise further in the matter. Mr. Richards Here. Mr. M. V. Richards, land and indus trial agent of the Southern railway, reached the city last night from Washington and is at the Oglethorpe, lie is accompanied by Mrs. Richards. The importance of Mr, Richards' po sition with regard to Brunswick and its contiguous section makes liis visit of special significance. lie has done much for Brunswick and manifests a desire to do much more. Mr. and Mrs. Richards will probably spend several days in the city. Dernok Fell. A large derrick, used in hoisting material for a gravel roof to the top of the Clay building, corner of New castle and Gloucester strees, fell to the street below yesterday. The sup ports gave way. The jury, however, was discharged at the close of the morning session, and Judge Atkinson passed on the criminal matters that came up for action. The case of Andrew Bostwick against the B.&W. R. R. for dam ages, which had occupied all the pre ceding day’s session, was terminated, the jury finding a verdict for the rail road company. Bostwick claimed *3,000 for personal injuries. Floyd l’orter pleaded guilty to a charge of escaping from the county cliaingang. He was given a double sentence. Beauregard Edwards and Dock Mitchell were adjudged guilty of car rying concealed* weapons. Edwards got twelve months and Mitchell nine months or S4O. Court will continue today, but with out a jury. The prize will be known as the “Brunswick Cup”, and will be of solid silver, fourteen and one-half inches high, and ornamented with two guns and a dog, in bas re lief.
