Ohio maple sngar men have combined to put up prices. To the man with an elastic conscience '‘loot’’ has a gentler sound than “steal” and it oovers just as much spoils. THAT WATERED STOCK. The publication of the scheme tooatch the unsuspeoting with Brunswick City Dock and Improvement Company stock, it jarred Home, the majority of Brunswickians were delighted. Some said the company was selling stock in order to improve their real es tate here, and it was further stated that that the company has tho utmost faith in Brunswick. Let us reason a little. If the company believes in Brunswick whjj should they make Brunswick the scapegoat? OK it ia not a slick scheme why is that the managers, who are wealthy men, do not go down into their own pocketß and make additional investments? Every man who gets caught on the stock scheme jumps on Brunswick with both feet and wo suffer while those who get the coin are not subject to criticism . VAGRANCY LAW, Here Isa clear definition of a vagrant and the state law on the subject; 1. Persons wandering or strolling about in idleness who are ablo to work and have no property to support them, 2. Persons leading an Idle, immoral or profligate life, who have no property to support them, and who able to work and do not work. 8. All persons able to work, baring no property to support them, and har ing no vitlblo and known moans of a fair, honest and reputable livelihood. 4. Persons having a fixed abode, who bare no possible property to support them and who live by stealing, or trading in stolen property. 5, Professional gamblers living in idleness. '•Any persons nosy arrest a vagrant and have him bound oyer to any court of the oonnty having jurisdiction of misdemeanors, and he shall be punished as for a misdemeanor, or shall, In the discretion of the coart, be bound out to some person for a time not longer than one year, upon inch valuable consider ation as the oourt may prescribe.” The Timbs-Call intends to see that some of the loafers in Brunswick either GO TO WORK, LEAVE TOWN OK SERVE ON THE CIIAINGANG. SPIRIT OF POLYGAMY STILL LIVES. The passage by both branches of the Utah Legislature of a bill prsctioally legalizing polygamy shows that the old, spirit is not dead, and that there is an influecne in',that state that is widespread demoralizing and nn-Americani The Governor vetoed the bill, al though it enlisted bis sympathy, He feared national legislation and adverse criticism, and so said '‘no” when the harem-loving lawmakers had said “yes.” Governor Wells' veto contains a bint and an idea It.wouldn’t be a bad thing to pass tho very national laws that be fears and that his constituents fear. A serious need in this country is a law regulating marriage and divorce, that will he as effective in one State aa in another, from the Atlantic to the Pacific and from the lakes to the gulf. Utah can be easily reached, and in purifying a State mat has boasted of polygamou, practices, other places, where vice i, secret, but none the less widespread, can be made clean as well. BUNDAY THOUGHTS. BISIIOI* HUNTINGTON. In warfare the first condition of vio tory is to know the enemy, to know him well enough, at tho least, to distinguish him from a friend. The more distinct and accurate tnis knowledge of the en my is, as to his whereabouts, habits, disposition, tactics, object, the greater the likelihood of success, whether in defonso or altaok, The Christian life Is not all warfare, but it is warfare. No man or womun over lived without finding that out. There are other things to be done be sides fighting—bnilding, planting, till ing, serving, healing, receiving light and giving light, adding to the life and giving It to othors. From beginning to end, tho process is two-fold, positive and negative, gaining and resisting, ex tending truth by love, and overcoming hostility. Now it is not the “world” of lawful business, of wholesome enter prise, of moderate recreation, of artistic delight, that we are to giye up. It would be a very stupid affection to pre tend.not to know what worldliness is in the heart or tho life of man or wo man. It is the Bum of uuspiritual forces, ungodly passions, the ambitions, temptations, indulgences, entertain ments in which solf prevails, rules, reigns, uncontrolled in none of which could we be at our Master’s feet, listen ing to Him. By tho silent strength of an incorruptible heart, by the irresisti ble front of conscience and will, by the majestic superiority of character the Master wins and prevails against the world—as with the Master, so with His true followers. Two principles of life and conduct arc evor crowding for ad mittance at tho door of the soul. As far as ono comes in theotber must stand back In any heart, any family, any so ciety, any age. Roth have boon con tending with eaoh other since the first man and woman were tempted. Christ oalls the two sorts, two kingdoms, which means more than mere feelings, Beuti ment or •pinions. Each kingdom has one of two principles at Its root, and the same roots are in every human breast. You personally are in one of the two kingdoms. One Is solf —in all itß forms of indulgence and corruption, tho other is unselfish love for God and for man, purity, honor, spirituality. It is be a Viola Solo. An error in yesterday’s papor in the artlole regarding the concert at the Ar mory Tuesday night, perverted the sense of a paragraph, which, as it ap peared, is here reproduced; And the violin solo by Mr. Deal is a rare number, as performers upon this noble instrument are very small In vnuiber, and those who on this occas ion listen to its sweet voice may never In a lifetime again huTo such oppor tomty. By substituting “viola” for "violin” the proper meaning of the paragraph is clear. It esn be said, however, that snch an error is highly excusable, as the viola is a comparatively unknown instrument, besides Mr. Deal is known to the Brunswick public as a violinist, and as a performer on the viola he is appearing before our people iu anew role. Bores and Ulcers never become chronic unless the blood is in poor condition—is Sluggish, weak and unable to throw off the poisons that accumulate in it. The system must be relieved of the unhealthy matter through the sore, and great danger to life would follow should it heal before the blood has been made pure and healthy and all impurities eliminated from the sys tem. S.S.S. begins the cure by first cleans ing and invigorating the blood, building op the general health and removing from !i i C ® y r s ;'? A CONSTANT DRAIN effetematter. UPON THE SYSTEM . When this has been accomplished the dis charge gradually ceases, and the sore or nicer heals. It is the tendency of these old indolent sores to grow worse and worse, and eventually to destroy the bones. Local applications, while soothing and to some extent alleviate pain, cannot reach the seat of the trouble. S. S. S. does, and no matter how apparently hopeless your condition, even though vour constitution has broken down, it will bring relief when nothing else can. It supplies the rich, pure blood necessary to heal the sore and nourish Hie debilitated, diseased body. Mr. J. B. Talbert, Lock Bo* 245, Winona, Miss., jays: “61* years ago my leg from the knee to t he foot was one solid acre. Several physicians treated me and I made two trips to Hot Springs, but found no relief. I was induced to try S. S. S., and it made a complete cure. 1 have been a per fectly well man ever since."
