HBIIVS n Continued from page 1. To the Members of tbe Executive | Committee: I deem it my duty to keep you gen tlemen Informed as to tbs progress of tbe rotd, snd slso with referanoe to what I hear , from aloog the line, I understand the people of tbe lower route are arranging a combination proposition to be submitted to Col, Macben very abortly. This oombina tion embraces tbe towns Eufala, Ala., Dawsoo, Ga., Leesburg:, Asbburn, Sycamore, Irvlnerille and Ocilia with some possible defleotions along; tbe line, sucb as Leesburg for Instance. Tbls movement originated with the people of Eufala, Ala , wbo have been exceedingly active since tbe adjourn ment of our convention. Having this information I deem it but proper that 1 should give it oat in order that other towns may be on notioeand that other combinations may be formed if desired. My sole purpose is to help the railroad aDd be entirely fair to all tbe people wbo composed ths convention and eleoted me president. I desire to say further that Col, Maoben has mote than fulfilled bis promises up to date so far as our people are ooncerced and there is every indication that be will built his road through without any pause. The Indications are that be will be connected up with tbe Sea Board Air Line In less than -Ixty days and from hence on be will naturally be able to build muob faster, Another shipment of iron is expected on tbe 20. The first engine which arrived eomo* time ago, is hard at work and as far as we oan judge ths road will be push ed along and as near as possible will follow the most friendly route, as Indioited by free right of ways, dona tions of land, money and subscriptions '<> tbe bonds of the road. I bslive it is the fixed intention of Col. Machen and his associates to own and operate this road In tbe interest of ths people and we know no reason why be oaonot make a fortune out of It besides leav ing it as a monument to bis genius and enterprise. I beg to say further, that the delay in getting out the proceedings of our convention at Brunswiok was ocoas sioned first by my continued absenoe from the city, and seoond, on aooount of the Jacksonville fire. When tbe East Coast Printing Company was burned out, tbe woik had to be done over again, thereby delaying tbe pubs lication for abcu‘, two weeks longer. Respectfully submitted, Edwin Brobston, President Permanent Organization. SHIP NOTICE. Dissapointment to the Friends of Lipton s New Boat. Weymoutb, May 13—With the weather conditions favorable for a fair trisl with the wind fresh and steady, the ciurse cetr of all obstruction i, and no tides of any ocntequence Sham ■ rook r today beat Sir Tuomas L ptoo’s new boat by ft mlnmea and 5 seconds over a triangular conrso of about 20 miles. Tha only possible disadvant age to the cha'lenger wis.tbe faoc tha' she used her mainsail, which sits worse si-.cel s a't water bath of Thursday There was no discoverable holding baok of th: challenger, although once or twice sbe pointed such a course as left the susp'cion that the steerman was not taking alvntaga of every chance. There is no doubt that the result tfj today’s trial was distinctly disappointing to those who had pinn ed their faith to the new oballenger especially as Shamrock 1 on previous spine bad not shown an even equality with the new rac-ron any point of sailing with thh exoeption of running, London, May 13—The Shamrock 1 beat Shamrock II by five minutes In 20 miles. FOR THE POOR. Cumberland Route Will Remember Them on Next Saturday. Tbe popular Cumberland Route will give their annual picnic exonrslon for tbe poor next Saturday, May 18th. Each Sunday sobool will appoint a commit tee of holies to solioit baskets and to go witt- the excursion. It is enough that tbe beat people should give them this delightful trip.
