The up to-date horse show is the iuc .I Intensely ini-eresiiug exhibition of mo i ern times. The reasons for ibis are not altogether plain, though it is evidom that the dual cberaot-er of the show if largely responsible ior il* popularity. Custom makes ihe model u horse hoow quite a* much a show of people as o: horses. The ball was set rolling by the great show which is held annually m New Y ork city. For a went,, during the montti of November every year New York society holds high carnival in Madison Square Carden ou the oc casion of the horse show. Those who have a proles-ional interest in horses, as well as tbe amateurs, are there in force, but all society, regardless of in terest in horses, comes to see au.l be seeu, and the great bnihling is a verita ble hive of fashion for :Le full period o. the show. There will be other exhibits by ladies in the Agricultural Department. Mrs. Johnson’s bold defiance will be follow ed un, and competition between the men and women will be of a very lively nature. WEDNESDAY, JULY 10 1901 v -* A Great Livestock Show. r The livestock department of She Southern Intar-State Fair has always beeu a prominent featnre. Tka axhlblts of livestock at the Fair of 1899 wer* far ahead of any previous shew held ia the Soath, and the exhibits last year were quite equal to any in the United States; indeed, there was only one Fair that made as good a showing last year—that was the great Illinois State Fair, held at SpriugfielcL The success of the livestock show at Atlanta lias been attained through tht influence of extremely liberal premium a Most of ih* stock snovru oouies from the North and West, and large premiums have been neces ary to indue* exhibit or* to bring their stock such a great dis tance. The Fair Management has determined to offer even larger premiums for stock to be shown this fall, therefore, it is safe to presume that exhibits will be cor respondingly larger. Special olasses have beeu opened for livestock owned in Georgia, South Carolina and Ala bama. This has been done for the rea son that Southern breeding interest* are hardly ready at this lime to compete with Northern and Western herds that represent many yoars of careful breed ing, but stock owned in the states named is also eligible for entry in the classes open to the world, hence South ern broi-dors may compete for two sets of premiums with the same cattle. , The premium list for the livestock de partment of the Southern Inter-State Fair is now ready for distribution, and Secretary T. H. Martin, at Atlanta, will be glad to mail a copy on applica tion. I Big Pomiums For Farmers.
