BRANTLEY AND THE GOVERN ORSHIP. Ho far there Is no declared candidate for governor from South Georgia exe p perhaps Col. Estlll, ot Savannah, who has signified hie willingness lo accept the nomination if tondtred him hy tue '‘convention” on a gold platter. Vvr nave no idea that Col. K.till is in earnest, and do rot believe that he teriously contemplates entering a con* test which would mean more work then the editor of the News would probably he willing vo put into the job. Mr. Brantley now seems to he the logical candidate and the only one perhaps that South Georgia can jut In the field with reasonable hope of sucoees. We propose to ttate bri lly a few of the reasons why wo think Mr. Brantley would probably be nominated, premis ing our remarks, however, with the statement that we are not one of Mr, Brantley’s friends who has or will advise or urge him to enter the oontest unites forsooth, ttere appeals to bo more than a reasor able chance for hie success. Some advantages, however, in Mr. Brantley's favor aie these. A very large poition of the leading poll tlclans of North Georgia, as aleo many of the Influential men who train with the rank anil file, have signified their desire to see a South Georgia man made governor at the next election. Our informatiou is to the effect that those who would have supported Mr, do Blguon in the northern counties are so far as we have learned, a unit lor Brantley. Hentor Clay, Judge Oober and scores of others have stated tlm’ % they will take the field for him If he becomes a candidate and it Is necessary to do so. Mr, du Bignon is Air. Brantley’s friend, and the Herald does not think tLat it violates a confidence when it states that next to being gov ernor himself, Mr, du lllgnon would prefer to see Will Brantley in the executive chair, If North Georgia ie sincere in declar ing for a South Georgia man, Mr. Brantley can b elected. As we have already intimated, Brantley is the most available and strongest man South Georgia can put 10 the race, and so far aside imaginary line which divides South from Middle Georgia is concern ed, we do not believe he would lose a oounty or a precinct on the gulf or Atlantic side. It there is any kicking against Brantley for governor in South Georgia it comes from his frieor’a, a number of whom think that the world would he turning the wrong way in thirty da,* should he give up bis seat in congress. In a nutshell then, it is Brantley for governor frem South Georgia, or it is nobody, and it may be nobody even if we rtm Brantley, though the tide seems to haye turned all In our direction just at this, the present time, now. Brant ley; with us, may be first choice; he is also "Hobson's ctoiee”—him or noth* ing. We will not say that he is a forlorn hope, but he is our only hops. We will not etate that he is the dernier resort, but by the lord Harry, he is our last obance. We may run him and we may elect him, and we may run him and we may lose him, and if we do it will almost kill father. What aie we going to do about itV —Waycross Her ald. ’ jflftti ilM#frrn JL&rse Show. * The up to date borss show is the most Intensely interesting exnibition of mod ern timu. TJio reasons f.tr this are not altogether ulaTu, though it is evident thaV the idM character of the show if largely responsible for its popularity. 'CtVWbni makes the moiiem horse show Quite as much a show of people as ot horses. The ball was set rolling by the great show which is held annually in New Yor * city, For a week, during trie moutn of November every year, New York sooioty holds high carnival ia Madison Square Garden on tne oc casion of the nurse show. Tnose who have a professional interest in horses, as well as tne amateurs, are there in force, but all society, regardless of in terest in horses, comes to see and he teen, and the great building is a verita ble nive of fasiiion for the full period ol tbe show. Ihe other horse shows throughout th conniry have been patterned tha New York show as closely as possible, aim everywnere the annual events have proven popular beyond the great! st ex pectationsof their promoters. Atlanta held her first horse show last fall, under the auspices of the Fair Association. In nio.de a great hit with the public. There was some doubt as to the outcome of th project until alter the fir-t night, and then it was simply a question of supply ing enough seats, and this the manage ment was never able to do. Jim the great Coliseum on the Fair grounds is being completely remodelled for the horn, show this fall, and th' re will b- ample seating capacity. A num ber of boxes will he added as wolf; in deed, the interior of the building will he arranged on modern liues in every way, and those who attend the Fair and horse show this fall will witness a veritable transformation. The great arena, the elaborate dot orations, bril liant lights, and more than ail else, the beautiful and richly gowned ladies everywhere to be seen, will make the pioture worth going a long way to sue. T# 9 tem. During the spring and summer, while IT* £ the skin is most active and the pores well open, we are much more liable to be affected by Poison Oak and Ivy and other dangerous plants. Workers in brass, copper, lead and zinc have their health im paired and the blood supply poisoned through the absorption of fine particles of these metals and the acids used in polishing and cleaning them. Inhaling the fumes of lead give painters that pallid, waxy appearance of the skin. Barber’s Itch is another disease that reaches the blood through the skin, and is a most obstinate one when it becomes firmly fixed in the system. After the poison has reached the blood and been disseminated throughout the system it is too late to resort to local applications. In many cases the blood is affected simultaneously with the appear ance of the rash or eruption on the skiu, and all efforts should be directed to the purification and building up of the blood. Ugly eruptions and sores will continue to break out in spite of salves, washes, soaps or other external treatment. S. S. S. is especially recommended for poisons of this character. So com pletely does it destroy, the effects of the Oak and Ivy that there is no possibility of its reappearance, and it is equally as efficacious iir in ass or lead poisoning or Bar ber’s Itch ; building up and purifying the blood and driving out of the circulation impurities of every kind, and removing every blemish, sore or eruption from the skin. There is no substitute for S. S. S. ;it is the only purely vegetable blood purifier known, and the safest and best in all constitutional or blood diseases.
