And here I am in the meridian of lifo, Still dreaming on the felicities of a tidy little wife; Whose perfection to fill up my fastidi ous bill, Must make the very devil jealous and lovt me to kill. Thus with quibbles I've postponed the matrimonial noose, Until forty years by myself I've contin ued to snooze; My old denuded carpet is now no com modity for glrfe, Who have twisted and frizzled their fastidious curls. As for my "goatee" it is popular, "but really I can t say, jNo uoubt a few uCa'lifornias wvuld give it more merit, But not h iving the "rhino" I can't pluck up with my spirit. Then iny crows feet" arc as shrivelled as an anticmated toad, Aud would not please young misses in the French a la mode; Mothers advise roe more spirit, but young America is out, And "goes it like blazes" with "lots" of hair under his snout . Young "sprigs" in this fast age are the pinks of perfection, Who'd advise an old bachelor as a ju dicious selection? "O cracked I can't come it unless I pile up the bodt, And buy me a sweety from the matrimo niai recruit; With lavish, expenditures I might con ciliato my dear, As the "honey moon"- waned matters - of firct would be clear; "That fancy without cash, iu this' fast "going age, Is'a matter too palpable, without it to " cugage." Then dear Mr. Southerner I'd beg of you alone, To buy me a rib or as Adam would say a "bone of my bone;" So shove up your "premiums" and hand over the dimes, And you shall pledge a bumper to Old Father Grimes.
