The Spring Terra of our Superior Court was held this week, His Ilouor Juusre Saunders presiding. A lanre number of the legal profession were in attendance. The business was rapidly disposed of,: many suits being continu ed. On yesterday, Jo-hn Coggins was arraigned for the" murder of Van Buren Hopkins, in July last, having had his trial moved from Pitt, where the m . i l rri i oirence .was commirrca. ine trial oc cupied the whole day, and resulted in a verdict of acquittal. Coggins is an effeminate ycuth and was not thirteen years eld when the act was done. Hop kins was about 20 years eld, and lived on a j-mull farm, with only Coggias as an assistant. Early one morning Hop kins was kuocked in tho head with an axe while in bed asleep, and died a 4 i few days thereafter. They met in Convention merely to denounce us, and the main feature and bulk of their platform there laid down is but a bill of indict ment against the Democratic party. The National Intelligencer says : It is a rurious fact, not generally known, tnat iew Jersey has a fugitive skve law of her own, enacted in 1793, and re-enacted with modifications in 1836 and i.'jiO. Ihe slaveholder or his agent can apply to a common pleas judge, and the arrest will be made by the sheriff', and the question of property decided by three judges. State and National Conventions. The 4th Thursday in March next is Fugitive Slave Aid Society. Some trouble faaving recently occur red among the Abolitionists connected with the Fugitive Slave Aid Society, at Syracruse, (New York,) a suit was brought, in which the plaintiff was non-suited, on the ground of being en gaged in an illegal business, the judge stating in his decision that. u Constitution requires the rendition of luguive staves, any society which pro poses to aid fugitives in escaping, and thus violating the law, is an illegal as sociation.
