Praise for Frostburg Firemen. Frostburg is and can be justly proud of her brave firemen. Those who witnessed the work dene to pre vent the spread of the fire in East Frostburg the day before Thanks giving, fully realize that our firemen belong in the front rank of those who willingly and cheerfully give valuable service to save the lives and property of their fellow citizens. Here’s to the loyal Fire Department of Frostburg. May they ever receive the apprecia tion and co-operation they fully deserve from the Frostburg people. An Observer, In “growing end” of town. CHESTNUT BLIGHT IS DOING MUCH DAMAGE (Continued from first page) last few years because of the chest nut blight, the market for these mate rials remains good and prices obtain ed are very satisfactory. Therefore, while the blight is forcing the cutting of this material often before it is of proper size, there is no reason why it should be a total loss to the owner. While there is no good ground for pre dicting abatement of the disease, it has been the usual experience that some natural enemy will appear soon er or later to relieve a situation of this kind, and there is some hope at least that chestnut may be saved from total extinction. THIS TOWN NEEDS RAIN. It takes a normal amount of rain each year to grow the crops. This normal rainfall is well known. In con sequence the weather bureau issues bulletins showing the precipitation and excess or deficiency of moisture. It takes a normal amount of boost ing and public spirit to keep a town from drying up. If a bulletin were is sued showing what you have done to patronize, to boost and to help this town, where would your name appear? —ln the excess or in the deficiency col umn? Are you precipitating a normal amount of home pride and local en thusiam? The propositions differ in two impor tant particulars; First, you can’t have an excess of home pride. Second, if there is a deficiency, you can correct it. Efforts to make it rain when the coun try needed rain have never been very successful. But it ought to be easy for you to realize that you are not doing enough for this town and for this town’s present and future, and to get out of the deficiency column onto the, honor roll.
