Omich's confection ery store. 36-37 The repairs on the building recently purchased by O'Leary & Bowser are being pushed rapidly aud it becomes apparent that this well known firm is to move into an enviable location. Dr. A. E. Henderson, who has been confined to his home recently by ill ness, was this morning reported to be improving nicely, a iact which will be 'hailed with satisfaction by his friends. A party of young people from here attended a social gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John McKer nan, seven miles west of town, last Saturday evening. They report an enjoyable time. E. J. Willits made the following sales this week: G. E. Carson, res idence property, to Fred Knudson: Mabel Remore, residence property to K. W. Titus Chas. Fisk, residence lots, to E. T. Hagerty. A. Dunham, who for some time has been in the employ of the M. & I., has entered the employ of Barney Burton. Mr. Dunham is a young man of in telligence, and Mr. Burton is indeed fortunate in securing his services. Messrs. Harare and Hubbard went to Cass Lake Monday afternoon to assist the band there that evening, the occasion being a polical rally. Con gressman Morris of Duluth was the principal attraction, being the speaker of the evening. The Hallowe1en fiends were out as usual last Friday night but the amount of damage done was slight compared with the results of former times. It will be a happy day for the property holder when the spirit of youth along this line is reduced to a minimum. The ladies of the M. E. church are getting out a souvenir of the city in the shape of a book on the pages of which are placed views of places of interest in and around Bemidji. The 'books are to be very handsome in design and will no doubt be disposed of without difficulty. The proceeds are to be used for the benefit of the church. The Spiritualistic society will hold a business meeting at Mrs. Ted Smith's residence tomorrow (Friday) evening. All old and new members are earnestly requested to be present, and all spiritualists in town and -country are especially invited to at tend chis meeting. Several new medi ums are expected to arrive here soon, and regular public meetings will be resumed at once. C. J. Brand, a representative of the Field Columbian Museum, is in the city in the interest of that institution. He will be engaged here until the fif teenth of the month when he will re turn to Chicago. His work while here will be almost wholly along the line of forestry work. Mr. Brand is a graduate of the University of Minne sota, and so no stranger to the state, having also been in Bemidji last year. The new Pyesbyterian church of this place is to be opened next Sunday on which oceasion all people are especial ly invited to attend morning service which will be held at 10:30 o'clock, when Gen. Adams of Minneapolis will preach. Evening service at 7:45, at which Rev. Mansen of Duluth will preach. It is also expected that Samuel Blair and Mr. Selyar of Duluth and Minneapolis will be prasent. On Monday evening there is to be a grand banquet given by the ladies of the church in the new lecture room, after which an entertaining program will be given on early days in Bemidji, by Gen. Miss Maude Olson will be at home tomorrow evening to a few of her friends. Earl Carson spent the week before election at Koochiching in the interest of the county. The ladies of the Baptist church served dinner to hungry voters at the Army hall Tuesday. Cyrus L. Smith closed the camgaign at Bagley Monday evening by a rous ing political meeting. Mike Hanson came up from Cass Lake Monday and spent a few days !u town renewing old acquaintances. L. J. Kelley and P. J. Conway, em ployed in the Crookston Lumber Co's office here, spent last Sunday at their homes in Crookston. J. B. Election and the general attention given to it has caused a falling off in the local columns this week, a fact which, we hope, will be pardoned un der the circumstances. C. D. Carter, general superintendent of the Iron Range Electric Telephone Company, was in the city the latter part of last week looking after the interests of his company. W. F. Street has been making re pairs on his office building this week with a view to making it morejcom fortrble during the winter months as vel as to add to its attractiveness. They have been residing at Bend, Oregon, but will make this place their home in the future, a fact which will be received with pleasure by their many friends here. The subject at the M. E. church next Sunday morning will be "Bus iness," and will be delivered by Rev. Poster. There will be no services in the evening in view of the re-opening of the Presbyterian church. The Ep worth League will meet at 6:30 as usual. M. D. Stoner is at home in Bemidji for a few days. He left here Saturday suffering with a lame kneecaused presumably by too much walking. Mr. Stoner is one of the busiest men in the county and his business keeps him constantly on the move.Black duck American. The local telephone exchange has been placed under new management recently. On account of the resigna tion of Mr. Fields the company was forced to find another manager and as a result Mr. Root of Minneapolis, has taken charge of the work. Mr. Root is a pleasant young man and one who no doubt will make friends with the patrons of the exchange. Fred Carlson who has been employ ed in the PIONEER office for the past six years resigned his position and left for the pineries la it Monday where he will act as time-keeper for Walker & Akelcy. We wish Fred success at his new venture but are sorry that it takes him from out the midst of his many friends hese. A party of young people participated in a pleasant Hallowe'en dancing party last Friday evening. As would be anticipated the evening was passed in dancing and no one regretted be ing present. The Redmen hall was chosen as the place for the jollifica tion, and it was far past the mid night hour when the party disbanded. A. E. Smith, dealer in real estate and loans, and J. C. Moore, the town lot man, in connection with Silver Bros., are now occupying the room just north of the Markham hotel, which has recently been put in shape. The place is being nicely furnished as an office room and is in an excellent location. J. C. Moore and the Silver Bros, have moved to this building from their former offices in the Miles block. The Bemidji band boys are having their pictures taken this week and as a result there is considerable doing at the Reed Studio. The pictures are being taken individually and not in a group as is usually the case, and when they are finished Mr. Reed has agreed to mount them in a handsome frame and present the whole to the boys as a mark of his regard for their efforts to give Bemidji a first class organization of tfiis kind. The M. E. parsonage is being re modeled and repaired this week. A 16x24 upright two stories high is be ing built on the front of the original structure and when finished will make a very comfortable dwelling for the new pastor and his family. The subject at the Baptist church next Sunday morning will be "After Election, What Then?"' Sunday School at noon. There will be no ser vices in the evening on account of the re-opening of the Presbyterian church. The young peoples' meeting will also be set aside for that evening. Dr. Gilmore. a practicing physician of Fosston, has been in the city look ing over the prospects for a location here, and has decided to make this place his future home. He will oc cupy office rooms in the Boston Block. The doctor has been in Foss ton for the past four years and comes here highly recommended. While here he spoke at the legular weekly meeting of the local lodge on the question of the re adjustment plan. After Mr. Dawson finished his speech the Royal Neigh bors served a much relished lunch in the old court house hall which was enjoyed by everybody. The Deputy also visits other camps in this county.
