The tornado wrecked telephone and telegraph wires, de stroyed trees, fences and outhouses and killed stock. Two Killed in Texas. Hereford, Tex., May 2S. A local storm resembling a tornado struck and demolished the house of D. Will son, near Summerfield, seven miles west of here. Mrs. Wilson and her infant child were killed. Mr. Wilson and a fifteen-year .lid daughter wore Injured. CLAIMS FIVE MILLION. American Mining Engineer Wants Pay for Lands Seized by Boers. Washington, May 23.The state de partment has called the attention of the British government to the claims of the late Charles F. Brown, an Amer ican civil and mining engineer, for compensation for lands of which be was deprived by the Boer government before the South African war. The amount of the claim is $5,000. Imprisoned in a Mine. Terre Haute, Ind., May 23.Three men were imprisoned by a cave-in at Seller's coal mine near Cloverland last night. All the men employed at the mine, and many from Seeleyville are now working to release the im prisoned men. Citizen Train Has Smallpox. Stamford, Conn., May 23.George Francis Train is quarantined at the home of his sister, Helen M. L. Gula der, in this city, suffering from a mild case of smallpox. Crookston, Minn., May 23.It seems quite certain at the present time that the Great Northern will locate division headquarters machine shops here. Arrangements have been completed by them to build a large hotel at South Crookston to accommodate their men. The officials were here yesterday and selected the site and work will begin in a few days. It will have fine library and bath and will be very large. HORSES MISSING. Stockmen Are Hustling Around to Find the Thieves. Pierre, S. D., May 23. Wieh the breaking up of the horse rustling gang which worked through this section of the state five years ago, the owners of' animals had a respite from losses from that source and rested easy. But on beginning to look up their horses this spring thev round that a number were missing, and as they cannot be located anywhere In this part of the country the indications are that the rustling work has started again and several suspects are being watched. CAUGHT THE THIEVES. One Is Drowned and the Other Will Be Hcnged by Farmers. Twin Fall*., Idaho, May 23.After a chase covering sixty-five miles and lasting two days, a posse came upon the two men alleged to have stolen four horses from a canal company at Milner. The fugitives were forced into the river, and one of them, in attempt ing to swim the stream with his horse, was drowned. The second man was captured and brought back to Milner.
