While the accident is very serious it "is not thought, it will necessitate amputation. Drops Six Stories to His Death. Pittsburg. Oct. 1. Maj. Samuel W. Hay met instant death last evening by falling through the elevator shatt in the Arrott building and making a drop of six stories. Maj. Hay was a member of one of Pittsburg's oldest families. Jealousy Causes Double Tragedy. Pittsburg, Pa., Oct. 1. George W. Young Man Seriously Injured While Rabbit Hunting. Appleton, \Vis.. Oct. 1. While rabbit hunting in the swamp near Mackville with a party of friends. Harvey Woleott of this city, aged nine teen years, narrowly escaped being killed by falling from a log. lie fell backward on a sharp stone and was rendered unconscious. was picked up by his companions, who secured a rig from a farmer and brought him to town. His injuries are such as to make his condition extremely critical. MIRACULOUS ESCAPE. Baby Falls Two Stories and Is Not Injured. La Crosse, Wis., Oct. 1. A little two-year-old child of Mr. and Mrs. Jo seph Kabat of this city fell out of a second story window to a hard side walk below, and so far as physicians can tell, is not injured in the least by the experience. The baby was lean ing agains! a screen in the upper story window when it cave way and tie1 baby and screen fell together. It is thought that the screen saved it from death. TYPHOID EPIDEMIC. Twenty Caires Reported in Crookston ^nc! on the Increase. Crookston. Minn.. Oct. 1. There are twnty cases of typhoid fever the city of Crookston, and the malady is on the Increase. While there has been no fatalities, the health officers are on the lookout and every pffort will be put forth t' stamp out the dis ease. It is attributed to the drinking of water from the shaikw wells, of which there are a large number in cer tain quarters. Sneak Thieves in South Dakota. Egan. S. D., Oct. 1.
