W TOMORROW
First Football Game in His
tory of Town Comes Off
Tomorrow.
LOCAL TEAM IS UP AGAINST A
BEEFY BUNCH.
If Precedent Holds Good the Home
Team Should Get Away
Good.
The strenuous American game
of football, the game of brawn
and muscle of pluck and energy
will make its initial bow to the
local world of sport in Bemidji at
the fair grounds tomorrow after
noon when the newly organized
team of this city will contest for
supremecy over the team from
Grand Rapids, one of the fastest
in this section, and when the
purple of Bemidji will either
flutter in triumph or grovel in
defeat.
There are games and games in
this city but football will not be
added to the list until tomorrow
and there is a vast deal of inter
est in tomorrow's event. Be
cause the game has never been
played in Bemidji it does not
necessarily follow that there are
no enthusiasts. Quite the con
trary is the case and the indica
tions are that when the struggle
starts there will be a well filled
grand stand and bleachers of
war horses who will, hang on
every play and every turn of the
game with all the vim and red
fire that makes a football game
spectacular.
Can the .home team hope to
win? This is a question that no
body is prepared to answer with
money at present, but Dr. Tuomy
one of the team's efficient coach
whose experience in the business
dates back for some time does
not hesitate to say that if the
talent afc home goes into the
game with the pluck* and determ
ination which it should, the com
pany will be sufficiently fast to
take the bunch from Grand Rap
ids into camp. Most of the
practice work has been conduc
ted under Dr. Tuomy's super
vision and his judgment in the
matter is regarded as good.
The game wiU be called at two
o'clock and it is estimated that it
will be gotten off in two thirty
five halves with fifteen minutes
rest between. The admission to
the grounds will be twenty-five
cents and seats in the grand
stand will be worth an additional
ben cents. The city band will be
in attendance and will discourse
its bravest music to make the
thing lifelike and add spirit to
the occasion. The Grand Rapids
team will arrive tonight and will
be accompanied by the flower of
the rooting fraternity which
flourishes to a commendable de
gree in the Itasca county towns.
Indications are that with favor
able weather the attendance wj
be very large. The colojij
