Haun. expert sawyer, left today for Duluth. George LeBlanc, the obliging day clerk at the Markham hotel, has recovered the overcoat which he thought was stolen from the Markham last Saturday night. Judge Spooner is expected to conclude the present session of the district court at Aitkin Wednesday and will visit at St. Paul before returning to Bemidji. The judge sustained his reputa tion for going after the business in hand by finishing all the jury cases of the term and dismissing the jury Saturday. Editor Martin, of the News, never loses an opportunity to boost for Bemidji. Mr. Martin thinks the opportunity is here for one of the greatest summer resort toAvns in the northwest and is^at present planning for a number of excursions from var ious cities in the northwest to this city next season. Among those who saw last night's presentation at the city opera house were many who saw it for the second and third time and the universal opinion is ox pressed that it has nover boon seen to better advantage The piece with its quaint character, while not classic is decidedly en tertaining and the specialty pro gram in the last act was one of the best things ever seen at the local house. o Broadhurst's funny farce comedy "What Happened to Jones" will be the next attrac tion. Wilcox, of the Crookston Lumber Company, leaves this afternoon for Minneapolis where he was summoned this morning by-the death of his aged father which occurred after a short illness at the advanced age of 82 years. The funeral will be held at Minneapolis and the re mains will be taken to Michigan for burial. UNDER TONS OF EARTH. Ten Laborers Killed by Cavein in New York Subway. New York, Oct. 27.Ten lives were lost by the cavein of the roof and walls of the subway tunnel at One Hundred and Ninety-fifth street and four persons were badly injured. The dead are: Timothy Sullivan, William Schuette, foreman Guisseppe Barone, Stanzione Brune, Louis Tippio and five unidentified Italians. The cavein was caused by the fall ing of a huge boulder that acted as a keystone for thousands of tons of earth and rock and was loosened by a blast. Rufus C. Hunt, the superintendent, and Richard Beyers, foreman, for J. B. .McDonald, the contractor, were ar rested on a charge of criminal negli gence pending an investigation by the coroner. CONDITIONS IMPROVED. Yellow Fever on the Decline in Laredo and San Antonio. Laredo, Tex., Oct. 27.Yellow fever conditions have so greatly improved that there is no longer any doubt that in a short time the disease will have been entirely stamped out. The latest official bulletin issued is as follows: New cases, 12 deaths, 1 total cases to date, 534 total deaths to date date, 44. The yellow fever situation in San Antonio is greatly improved and the belief is that the quarantine against the city will be raised in a few days. Prisoner Sentenced to Be Shot. Ogden, Utah, Oct. 27.At Farming ton Judge Rolapp has sentenced Nick Haworth to be shot on Friday, Dec. 11. Haworth killed Thomas Sandall, watchman in a store at Layton. Ha worth was one of the prisoners who escaped from the penitentiary two weeks ago and was recaptured after four days' liberty. Gravelle Pleads Not Guilty. Helena. Mont., Oct. 27.Isaac Gra velle, believed by officials to be the leader in the Northern Pacific dyna mite conspiracy, pleaded not guilty in the-district court here.
