Sometimes it is necessary to go away from home to get a proper perspective of ourselves. That we of northern Minnesota entirely appreciate our possibil ities is doubtful. At times we are all of us more or less doubt ing Thomases to our discredit be it said. But no man of exper ience and observation really questions the begress of the"Jedge future of northern Minnesota. It is good to read such things as this from the Princeton Union: All signs point yto a good growth all through northern Minnesota next year. There will be some railroad con struction and an effort will be made to get in a lot of new settlers. There is no better place for them and there are no better opportunities. Northern Minnesota is a great domain and its re sources have not as yet be gun to be develope-:!. His implicit faith in northern Minnesota is one reason for theThey popularity of Bob Dunn through out this end of the state. The people of northern Minnesota rightly reason that such a man in the governor's chair will be ivorch a great deal to this part of the state. IT IS probable that the lands thrown open for settlement in Minnesota today will ive rise to more contests than ever vexed the homesteader before. There are more squatters than ever be fore, and every piece of land squatted on means a possible contest. This condition is oneduring to be regretted for where the ownership ol&ny extensive sec tion is in dispute development must await a settlement of thetising dispute. "EVERY advance made by a newspaper reflects credit on the community in which it is pub- lished," quotes the Glencoe Register, and it might well have added that no one instrumental- ity is so effective in promoting the business wellfare of a city as a live daily newspaper. Th rapid and steady increase in the circulation of the Daily Pioneer indicates that the people of Bo- midji appreciate this fact. EIGHT cranks" have been ar- rested in Washington within a month. A the present rate of increase of cranks something is liable to be turned out very shortly. IT IS rumored that the Mon- tana copper Avar is ended, but it is safe to say that peace was pur- chased at a great price. THERE are a lot of congress- men who are listening anxiously for Joe Cannon's first report. *RI TS NORTHJ .BIT I FROM E COUNTRY La Prairie brags of its potato harvest. Eveleth spends quite a lot of money and makes its back door yards fit to play in. The Mentor Herald has still got the door key which it found some three months since. It seems that the new town of Aurora got up too early in theGibbons morning for its competitors. Business men of Northome raise 200 with which to reduce the aggressiveness of Northome mud. The esteemed Turtle River Pine Tree has grave fears of a Beltrami county newspaper trust. Just to show that it is going some Deer River sold $1357.65 worth of postoffice money orders during October. We may confidently predict that the Wadena Tribune will arise Phoenix like from the ashes of yesterday's fire. Over at East Grand Forks about the last that can be said of Sullivan's" opponent is that he "also ran." Since it got Sup't. Carrol away from Grand Rapids Wadena thinks it can spell down the whole north country. The Itasca County Record strikeststrong upon the everlast ing chor^ of truth when it ob serves that Chief Bemidji's will live long after him. The millenium may be expect ed the day after the court house bonds carry in Norman county. have just been defeated for the third time. 1 YOUR OPPORTUNITY Elsewhere in this issue ap pears an announcement of the Lumbertnens State bank.
