The plants of the United States Steel corporation, owned and con trolled by.it i* Jan. 1st, 1906, consisted of ninety-three blaat furnaces, six teen Bessemer steel works, sixteen open-hearth steel works, seven: T. raiLmilla, thirty-eight sheet and tin plate mills, twenty-two bridge and structural plants, eighteen tube mills and a large number of other establishments, including bar mills, plate mills and wife, rod and mail mills. In addition to its manufac turing plants the corporation owns iron mines in the Lake Superior re gion having an annual output of 22,000,000 tons, a marine equipment operated in conjunction with the ore properties consisting of seventy steamers and thirty barges and seventy-three coking plants. The. subsidiary companies own 63,094 acres of coaking coal in Penngyl vania and lease 50,000 acres in the Pocahontas district, West Virginia also 32,724 acres ot steam coal prop erties. The corporation owns water plants, natural gas proper ties, and ore docks at various points on the lakes. Various railroad lineB, including the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern, the Pittsburg, Bes aemer and Lake Erie railroad, the Duluth and Iron Range railroads andthe Duluth, Missabeand North era railway are also owned or con trolled by constituent companies, making a total on Jan. 1st, 1906, of 814JS8 miles and an equipment con sisting of 660 locomotives and 31,735 cars. The authorised stock of the United States Steel corporation is $1,100,000,000, equally divided be tween common and preferred. On Jan. 1st, 1906, the corporation had issued $508,302,500 of common and $360,281,100 of preferred, or a total of $868,583,600. Georgia Miastrels. To those who enjoy mirth, music and song the coming of Richard Pringles' Famous Georgia Minstrels will be hailed with delight. Other minstrel companies have come and gone, but Richard A Pringle's go on forever. The secret of their suc cess has been the fact that the man agement has always firmly believed that the paying public demand genuine colored minstrel perform ance when presented ou the line that made minstrelsy so popular years ago their belief has been proven to be the correct one. Sweet southern melodies, beautiful and entrancing music by skilled musi cians, dancing as only the negro can dance, and witticisms told as only the negro can tell them. Clar ence Powell, the comedian, who has made the whole world laugh, is still at the head of the list of artists and will, bring with him a big budget of good things that he has collect ed during 'he past summer. The company travel in their own Pull man Palace Cars and number over forty people. The noon-day parade and free evening concert area fea ture this season, and will be given aa usual. The date of their appear ance at the Fay Opera House is Monday, June 17. Revjaieg Geological Map. Prof. C. Leith, of the Wisconsin State University at Madison, who is in charge of the government work in a revision of the geological map of the Mesaba, was in the city Mon day and Tuesday. Under.the direction of Prof. Van. Hise and Prof. Leith a revision of the geological maps of all the Lake Sugerior ranges is now being made, Prof. Van Hise at the present time being on the Gogebic. An Ordinanoe relating to the sale or disposal of spirituous, vinous, malt or fermented liquors and to the Issuance of license there for, and providing penalties for sale of said liqueurs without license therefor. The Village council of the Village of Mountain Iron, of the County of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, does ordain as fol lows: Saonoa 1., It shall be nnlawful for any person, per sons,firms or corporations to sell, give, furn ish or dispose of in any manner, either direct ly or indirectly by agent, employee or other wise any spirituous, vinous, malt or fer mented liquor in any quantity or for any purpose whatever within the limits of the Village of Mountain Iron without first ob taining a license for that purpose from the Village Council of Mountain Iron. SBCTIOK 2. No license for the sale of intoxicating liquors shall be granted to any person ap plying for tbe same under the provisions of this ordinance, except upon the conditions, that said applicant shall before tbe Issuance of said license pay to tbe. Treasurer of said Village a license fee of One Thousand- Dol lars (11000.00.) Sacrum 8. Any person, firm or corporation applying for a license as aforesaid, shall present to the Village Council a bond satisfactory to the said Council to be executed by a reliable surety company authorised to do business within the State of Minnesota as surety, or by not less than two tree 4* 4* I holders who shall reside within said Village of Mountain Iron', and who shall each justify for the full amount of said bond. Licenses for the sale of liquors as provided herein, outstanding at any one time, are hereby limited to Three 0) in number, and no license shall be issued or granted by said Village Council exeeeding said number at any one time. Applications for licenses shall be filed and acted upon in the order re ceived, and upon the expiration of any ex isting license, the application first filed which oomplles with all the conditions of tbis ordin ance and which shall be approved by the said Village Council shall be granted a license. At any time when less than Three (3) licenses are in force, any suitable person, whose application, bond and sureties shall be. approved by the Village Council and who shall payto the Village Treasurer One Thousand (11,000) Dollars, and who shall file with the Village Becorder said Treasurer's receipt and the bond hereinbe fore mentioned shall be entitled to, and, on demand shall receive a written license, to be signed br the President and attested by the Beoorder of said village, to sell, vend, traffic in and dispose of all spirituous, vinous, malt or fermented liquors at any one certain place, house or room in said Village, to be desig nated in said license, provided that no license shall be granted for a longer period than One (1) year. 8MTION 6. No person shall, In any manner, be protect ed by any permit or license issued by the Village Council of the Village of Mountain Iron unless he shallbave paid tbe full amount required by this ordinance, and no license shall have any foroe or effect unless the licensee shall have paid therefor tbe sum of One Thousand Dollars (01000.00.) All licenses granted by the Village of Mountain Iron shall be posted up in a conspiculous place in the room where suoh business is carried on, and shall distinctly state the amount paid tberpfor. All applications to sell intoxicating liquors under tbe provisions of tbis ordinance shall be in writing, and shall designate the place where such business is to be carried on. Upon teceMflaaludb application the Village Recorder shall a notice of-such ap plication, containing the name of tbe ap plicant, a description of the premises stated in the application, and the time when tha same will be beard, to be published in the official newspaper of said Village of Mountain Iron at least Two weeks (2) immediately pre ceding the time of such hearing. Any person may appear at the time stated and object to the granting of such liciense, and if it shall appear to the Village Council that the applicant has knowingly violated any of the laws of this state or of the ordinances of the ^illage of Mountain Iron regulating tbe sale of intoxicating liquors within one year, preceding suoh application, or that he has violated any law relating to the sale of Intoxicating liquors to minors, habitual drunkards, or Intemperate drinkers, after re ceiving a notice forbidding such sale within five years preceding suoh application, said Village Council shall refuse to grant tbe lioense. No liquor licenses granted under the pro visions of this ordinance shall authorise the person named therein to change his place of business from the place named In said license, except such change be first approved by the Village Council, and in any such changes of location the old license shall be delivered up for cancellation and a new license shall be issued and new bonds required. The provisions of this ordinance shall not be so construed as to prohibit any pharmacist or druggist In tbe 8tate of Minnesota, who shall be duly registered as such under tbe laws of said state, and" who shall be actually carrying on the business of a pharmacist or drugscist, or dispose of any spirituous, vinous, fermented, or malt liquors, in good for medicinenal purposes, upon tbe written pre scription of a reputable and duly llmnsod physician, actually engagod in tbe practice of bis profession, but any such liquors so disposed of shall not b% drank or used on tbe premises where obtained. Any person who shall sell, barter, give away or otherwise dispose of any spirituous, vinous, malt or fermented liquors within the limits of tbe Village of Mountain Iron without first having obtained a license there for, agreeable to the provisions of this ordinance, shall, upon conviction thereof in any Court having jurisdiction, be pnnlshed by a fine of not less than Ffty (960.00) Dol lars nor more than One Hundred (9100.00) Dollars and the costs of prosecution, and in default of payment thereof he shall be com mitted to jail of the said Village of Mountain Iron or be imprisloned in tbe County jail of the County of St. Louis until such fine and costs are paid, not exceeding (90) Ninety days. In prosecution for violation of this section of this ordinance it shall not be necessary to prove the name or kind of Intoxicating liquor sold, and in all such prosecutions under this section of this ordinance proof of the find ing of intoxicating liquors on tbe premises, and proof of the fact of one's having drank what appeared to be intoxicating liquors on any premises shall be prima facie evidence that such liquors were intoxleating.
