A five a. m. the lowest point reach ed during" the past 24 hours was recorded. The thermometer reached 80 degrees and two hours later it had risen to 82. Sunday the re were eight deaths and 12 prostrations. The dead are: Ed ward Conrad, John B. Ward, Anthony Siegmaszk i, George Overstreet, James Monohan, Henry Miller, Peter iMelrin and Mr Siebolt. Four Additional Deaths. A 12 o'clock the weather bureau thermometer pegistered $4 degrees in the shade, while on the street the rec ord was se\eral points higher. The temperature is still rising, but there is a cool breeze from the south to tem per it. to noon the re had been re ported four deaths from heat pros tration as follows: Henry Stauberg, John Keller, James Roper and John Isaac. New York, July 2.The hot weather which has caused so much suffering in this city last week continued Monday. A nine o'clock the weather bureau thermometer showed a temperature of 87 degrees as compared with 83 at the same hour Sunday. A ten o'clock the temperature was 89. The humid ity early Monday was 45 per cent. Sunday it was 56 percent. The temperature at noon was 93 degrees Pittsburgh, Pa., July 2The tem perature at two o'clock in the after noon was 96 degrees and still rising. Declared Unconstitutional. Milwaukee, July 2.An Evening Wisconsin special from Madison, Wis., says Attorney General E K. Hicks Monday rendered an opinion holding that the act passed by the last legis lature authorizing the expenditure of $20,000 of state money for the ex tension and improvement of the Wis consin river levee at Portage is un constitutional and void a violating he provision of the constitution which prohibits the state from ex pending money or contracting debs for work for intern al improvement. Weds a Chicago Man New Yor k, July 2.At St. James' Episcopal church, in Bensonhurst, Miss Theo Julian, a sister of Mrs Robert Fitzsimmons, was married Clarke G. Ball, of Chicago. The cere mony was performed by Rev Charles E. Benedict, pastor of the church. The bride was given away by her brother, Martin Julian. Mrs Fitz simmons acted as matron of honor and William G. Morrissey was best ma n. Miss Amie Julian, a sister of he bride, was flower girl and little Bob Fitzsimmons was page. Barker to Appeal His Case. Trenten, N J., July 2.Counsel for Thomas Barker, who was sentenced to five vears in the state prison for assaulting Rev. Dr Keller at Arling ton, Monday took out a wr it of error which will carry to the court of errors and appeals. In the meantime Barker will not be se nt the state prison serve his sentence. I the court of errors and appeals grants the writ Barker may again be releas ed on bail. Settlement of Strike Likely. Reading, Pa. July 2.It now looks as if the end of the strike of Read ing railway shop hands, inaugurated ten days ago, is in sight. President Baer, of the railroad company, and Chairman Boscher, of the strikers' committee, held a conference in New York Monday night. Mr Boscher will report the employes here Tuesday. Concessions have al ready been made bj 1 both sides. Murder Suspected. Milwaukee, July 1.An Evening Wisconsin special from Schlesinger ville, Wis., says John Gehl was found dead in his pasture on his farm near St. Lawrence, Wis I was thought at first that death resulted from a horse kick. Circumstances now point to murder. Wounds on his head indi cate that he was stabbed three times, and his skull fractured with a stone. A inquest will be held. Good Meeting- Despite Heat.
