The Engineer having submitted plan and estimate of cost, the following report was ordered sent to the Council, to-wit: To the Common Council of the City of St. Paul: The Board of Public Works have had under consideration the resolution or order of the Common Council, approved Feb. 4, 1886, relative to paving Dayton Avenue from Third street to a point 26o feet west of Summit Avenue, with pine blocks and granite stone, and having Investigated the proposed improvement respectfully re port that said improvement is necessary and proper, from the west line of Third street to a point 960 feet west of the west line of Summit Avenue; that the estimated expense thereof is 84,107; one half of which need not be paid into the City Treas ury before the contract is let; that real estate to be assessed therefor can be found benefited to the extent of the damages. costs and expenses necessary to be incurred thereby; that said Improvement is not asked for by a petition of a majority of the owners of property to be assessed therefor, but we herewith send a plan or profile of said Im provement, and an order for your adoption, if you tie-ire us to make, the Improvement. Pursuant to due notice the matter of the confirmation of the assessment for the con struc tion, relaying and repairing wooden sidewalks under contract of George W. Reese (Estimate No. 7), for term beginning April 1. 1885. and ending Nov. 1, ISS3. came up and the same was duly continued. On motion the vote was reconsidered by which, on the Bth inst., the matter of mak ing and completing the assessment for the opening and extension of Mohawk Avenue between Page street and Cherokee Avenue was adjourned to March 8. ISSG. at 2 m' the City Attorney and Engineer having re ported that no proper street exist*, and on further motion all proceedings in said mat ter under the final order of Council ap proved July 31, lSS*i. were annulled the said Council having annulled the said order owing to error in de scription of land to be taken for said improvement and ordered the Board to proceed under a new final order approved by said Council Feb. 18, 1888, and the Clerk was directed to give the first assess ST.
