Board met at 3 p. m. pursuant to call. Present: Messrs. Barrett, Quimby, Starkey and Mr. President. . .. The Corporation Attorney reported on the petition of B. Farley and others in. the matter of sidewalks on Capitol, Hewitt aud Taylor avenues. Consid ered and placed on file. The Corporation Attorney reported in the matter of the claim of Daniel Mullen, for balance due on contract for grading University avenue, from Rice, street to Lexington avenue. Consid ered, and upon motion said claim was ordered sent to the Council with the recommendation that the amount ($87.13) reported by the City Engineer as balance due on said contract be' allowed. The Engineer having submitted plan of -slopes, the following report was ordered sent to the Council, to-\vit: To the Common Council of the City of St.Paul: The Board of Public Works have had under consideration the resolution or order of the Common Council, ap proved June 9, 1887, relative to con demning an easement for making and maintaining slopes on Magnolia street, from Earl street to Mississippi street" and having investigated the ' pro-: posed improvement, respectfully report that it is necessary and proper to con demn and take an easement on the land adjoining and on the line of Mag nolia street, from Earl street to Missis sippi street necessary for making and maintaining slopes for cuts and fills one and one-half to one hi grading said Magnolia street; that the estimated ex pense thereof is : 81,000; that real es tate to be assessed theref be found benefited to the extent of the damages, costs and expenses necessary to be incurred thereby; that said improve ment is not asked for by a petit on of a majority of the owners of. property to be assessed therefor, but we herewith send a plan or profile of said improve ment, and an order for your adoption, if you desire us to make . the improve ment Yeas 4, nays 0. : ;. . .".:. I Present— Barrett, Quinby, Starkey and Mr. President. ln the matter of the proposed open ing, widening and extension of Bradley street, from North street to Beaumont street, which on June 23,1887, was re ferred to the Assessment Committee, the same was taken up, and after hearing the testimony of Samuel Mayall, John Casey, W. H. Illingsworth, E. F.Cramer and W. H. Hamm under oath, said mat ter was referred to whole Board to view. In the matter of the paving of Eighth (Bth) street (with cedar, blocks), from Locust street to Wabasha street, in cluding the necessary sewer connec tions, the assessment was corrected by abating the amount (3307.75) assessed against strip on W'ly side of. lot 3, block 11, Hoyt's addition to St. Paul, so as to conform to the facts and rights of .the case as intended.
