Two Sensational ami Mysterious Sunday Encounters. The peace and quiet of Portland avenue, Minneapolis, was disturbed Sunday morning. Two whip rights and a dog fight occurred an that ordinarily well behaved thorough fare. It all happened so suddenly that th. residents did not have time to lind cut the cause or the principals, and ihcy have nothing but the recollection of the affair. It will, howeter, serve as a topic for neighborly gossip, and much speculation will be indulg ed in. •Just about the time the churches were let ting out, two men in carriages approached one another from opposite directions. They met near Fifteenth street. Without a word tbey stopped their swiftly speeding horses, lumped out, grabbed their bugiry whips, and fought a furious round for about two min ut> s. Blows fell with lightning rapidity. Not a word was spoken, but standing about six feet apart they roundly slashed and struck at one another. The old saying, "like master, like man." wc.s never more true thai" i:i tbia case. Kach of the men were accompanied by a dog. One was a small bull-tarrier. The other was n large brown St. Bernard. When they saw their masters having it out. they took a turn at fighting and chewing, _r.d bit each other untii the big ffllcw obtained a good grip on the terrier's throat. Then it tried to sweep the .'reft;; with i s adversary. In th" meantime the owner of the b'g dec; had had his whip torn from bis hand, and to save himself, went into the fight a; close quarters. He grabbed the other man by the shoulders, radfhed him into the snow, and was showering ftter blows on the under man when bystanders took a hand. As the f-i^lii wad at Its height, two more men drove up and went through lhe same operation. They took out their buggy whips and slashed each other across tii • face. How ever, their tight was tanu- compared to the first one. Although the affair la.Tid only about two minutes, it gave a few bystanders a chance to congregate. When the four men had been separated, It was found that the do*s were still at it. -jikl ir required several gocd hard kicks to subdue the animals. Theu, witho it a word of explanation, ;.!:• mi n got Into their buggies and drove away. What the cause of the feud was, or whe the men were, i< still a mystery to the few who witnessed ic. The men had stylish turnouts, and were well dressed and gocd-lcoking. MUST PAY THE HEIRS. Master In t hancery Abbot Decides Uhluml E. M. Johnson. Howard S.
