CAME UPON A MINE OF GENUINE SOAP 'Wonderful Deposit in Wyoming "to ■ Be ; > -Worked by Capitalists. *-~ }-- ■ "We've got. everything . out s j of * the ETound but soap, and now we've got that," Jsaid the secretary of the Chamber of .jComnaerce,. as he rubbed his hands clean H.nd held them up for ■■ inspection. j It (was true enough. A soap mine is an , Innovation, and some people will have to [be "^showed," but Mr. Williams will show 'anybody who applies at the chamber that soap-is about to become a potent factor 'in .mining in the West. { Away back in the days when moun , tains rose up out of the sea and the Creator put everything into the hills £hat now produces wealth there was evidently a wonderful foresight of the present generation. Having provided al most everything, including gems,. fuel and drugs, • he • doubtless anticipated the need 'of a ? choice toilet article when man , took possession and smeared - himself over | ■with/dirC' in . extracting the wealth from ]Uie ground. "'."' ' ■ ■■ " So. for the . great unwashed, regardless of politics, there was deposited six miles north of New Castle, Wyo., on top of a v the . ground a hunk of soap about the size of the Colorado - state house. Just how much is under ground is ■ yet to be determined,. but E. A: Hlllman, of . 85 Bhcrman avenue, a tramway'; motorman of the Eleventh avenue lines, has • ac quired title to ISO acres, on a portion of .which is this big cake of soap. Through the Denver Chamber of Commerce three of the largest soap manufacturers in - the country have been ~ interested, and Mr. Hillman ,| will awake I some morning 1.; to discover that he has suddenly - become a »nn;ionp.ire. ". His little 20 cents an hour job. already looks like a , canceled stamp as compared to what's coming. . ••There is no doubt, about the purity of thisjsoap/J'said J. L. Strange to say, the same depth had to be penetrated fifty feet from the edge of the exposed hogback before reaching the stratum. Fifteen foot holes around the- sides of the ex posed part showed its contour almost vertical. "The deposit is six miles north of New castle and about 200 yards from the Billings branch of the Burlington. The hogback contains 500 car loads above the grass roots. We have tested it in soap, haying sent thirteen cars, all told, to Chicago and Minneapolis. "The material is an excellent filler for soapus and for paper. It is also a good article for horses' hoofs, cleansing: them and preventing decay. Our chemists are finding other uses for it." The samples on exhibition at the Chamber of Commerce include several pieces of raw material, which Is nothing more than a new variety of soft soap stone. Mr. Hillman crushed a piece the size of a goose egg with a hammer and put it in a cup of water. Immediately it formed a thick paste, which, he says, will hold Jts consistency indeflntely, and this paste has for two days- been used as a toilet soap by attaches of the cham ber. It has no grit, does not lather, but cleans and beautifies the skin as no man ufactured soap ever did. No chemical analysis is available, but the secretary of the chamber declares it is at least 99 44-100 pure.—Denver Post. Then the Temperature Fen.
