Don't look for flaws as you go through life And even when you find them $ It is wise and kind to be somewhat blind And look for the virtue behind them. For the cloudiest night has a hint of light Somewhere in its shadows hiding It is better by far to hunt for a star Than the spots on the sun abiding. The current of life runs ever away To the bosom of God's great ocean. Don't set your force 'gainst the river's course And think to alter its motion. Don't waste a curse on the universe— Remember it lived before you. Don't butt at the storm with your puny form— But bend and let it go o'er you. The world will never adjust itself To suit your whim to the letter. Some things must go wrong your whole life long. And the sooner you know it the bet ter. It is folly to fight with the Infinite. And go under at last in the wrestle. The wiser man shapes into God's plan As the water shapes into a vessel. —Anon. Tell Me So. I know that somewhere in your lov ing heart There is a sheltered nook reserved for me A little kingdom where I reign su preme. However small my tiny realm may be. I know that In the music of your soul These chimes with mine accord so sweet and low The echoes flood our hearts but, dearest one. 'Twould be so sweet to hear you tell me so. Perhaps you feel that I should be con tent To know that I am loved. But in my heart I long to hear the happy story told. For tender words arc love's divinest part. For. if we parch with thirst, what if the streams Shall flow their banks in wild tem pestuous flow, If not one drop shall reach our fev ered lips? Ah, darling, if you love me—tell me so! Our lips will soon be closed by angel hands, For. after all, there is not far to go, And life will end in silence, hard and cold So, darling, if you love me—tell me so! —Yonkcrs Statesman. The Prieat of Adergole. (The arrival of the French in Killala was the occasion of many an act of devotion to Ireland. One of the most notable was that of Father Conroy, P.P., of Adergole, who, having inter cepted a messenger bearing the tidings of the landing of the French at Castle bar, wakened his entire district, made a series of maps to guide the French. and headed his parishioners to their support. His name and story are still well known around the firesides of Mayo. The ballad faithfully follows the history of his act and the sacrificc it occasioned.) There's someone at the window.
