''V,\ June 19, 1919 Hon. Knute Nelson, United States Senator Hon. frank B. Kellogg, United States Senator, Washington, D. C. 's Honorable Sirs: As the time la now drawing close for action by the United States Sen ate and Congress, on the Peace Treaty and the League of Nations, and I as voicing the sentiment of railroad em ployes of the state of Minnesota, and also will add the sentiment of the en tire laboring people of this great state, which you gentlemen have the lionor to represent in the great law-making body of our country. Therefore, we, the laboring people of Minnesota now appeal to yott to support the League of Nations to the fullest measure that it may become a reality and thereby pro tect the people of our beloved coun try as well as the people of other nations from another disaster such as the world has just passed through. The laboring people of Minnesota feel that the decision now rests witb the American people by whose judg ment in the last analysis the members of the United States senate will be guided we believe the American peo« pie are resolved to do whatever is pos sible in ,order to avert a repetition of the disaster that has seared human kind, and the people of our great coun try are satisfied that the League of Nations alone can guarantee such an ordering of international affairs as can give to peoples the promise of peace. We also feel that the laboring peo ple of America are entitled to the con sideration of having their wishes ex pressed in the Congress of our couni try, by the men who we have elected to, or helped to elect to represent the people and tlieir desires, and we also are satisfied that during the great World War labor was not found want ing in any respect, either financially or otherwise, and also that the blood of the thousands of sacrificed Ameri cans who are now filling a lonely grave on the battlefields of France, are appealing to you gentlemen to use your best judgment in putting into ef fect a covenant that will eliminate another such wholesale carnage as the noble youth of our country were com pelled to endure in order that freedom of all peoples and nations would be secure in the future. We see so many publications of the speeches of some of our senators be fore the great law-making body in the halls of our congress and also at pub lic meetings, and we afe awed at such demonstrations by the men whom the people have sent to congress to be the guiding light of a free nation and to set an example to others who have not been endowed with power of speech and intelligence that these our learned senators have. Now, therefore, we the people of the great state of Minnesota, are sure' that you, the honorable senators, whom the people of Minnesota have sent to represent them in all matters Men's All Wool Bathing Suited One-piece California suifc—skirt attached—in a wide assoitrnjettt ofs$ripesjand/ odor combinations—excellent values at $4.00 and $5.00. -V 'fir 1 1 WL 1 ttt** A ft* where intelligence and judgment Is re quired, when the time comes for ac tion on the covenant of the League of Nations, will not be found wanting. And that you will use all your per suasive powers to swing In line to the support of the League of Nations these other senators, who through political aspirations or other selfish motives have withdrawn their support and have become a traitor to the cause for which they were elected. Very sincerely yours, J. F. KENAFICK, 3525 Cedar Ave., Minneapolis, Minn. SUMMER SESSION AT THE COLLEGE OF SAINT TERE8A The Summer Session of the College of Saint Teresa, Winona, Minnesota, will open June 27. Friday and Satur day, June 27 and 28, will be given to the registration of students. Classes will open on Monday, June 30. No care or expense has been spared In the effort to make the work of the Summer Session of the College of Saint Teresa equal instructional force and physical equipment to the high standard of work carried on during the scholastic year. Qualification of Teachers. The rulings of the State Department of Education are very explicit in the matter of the qualification of teachers for every grade of the elementary schools. The qualification for High School teachers is a Bachelor's Degree endorsed by the State Department of Education. Generally speaking, the accrediting of Catholic high schools may be long delayed when the teachers in these schools do not comply with this regu lation. Credits issued to pupils in schools not accredited do not receive ready recognition. It is very desir able therefore that all engaged in teaching In the high schools endeavor to earn the professional certificate granted to those qualified to teach in the high school. The cause of Catholic education will be greatly advanced when every teach er .in every Catholic parochial school will be ambitious to possess the certi fication for her position defined in the school laws of the state in which she teaches. The object of the summer session Is to provide the opportunity for those engaged in teaching to pursue such subjects and pass such state examina tions as may be necessary to earn the certification for their respective grades. Scope of the Work. The summer session of the College of Saint Teresa offers courses -in col lege and professional subjects. Courses Min Floor Arndi.C AX ^%^.Sr ^«SX. „T -i 4 E I I S S A N A In or jl-.W "v'^V *-v£ completed in the college section will be credited toward the degree of Bachelor of Arts in the normal sec tion toward a state teacher's certifi cate. The summer courses are arranged in such a way aw to give the student con tinuous work in the consecutive sum mer sessions. The courses offered in one session alternate with courses offered the fol lowing summer. The Idea is to e» courage students to plan tor continu ous study without the fear of marking time by duplication of work. The plan alms also at concentration of en ergy and tiitte along given lines until some definite course or courses are completed in such a way that they may count toward an advanced Diplo ma or toward a Bachelor's degree. There is no reason for the failure of any work to "count for credit" if it is planned advisedly and taken in accord ance with academic legislation. Examinations in Courses in Normal 8eetion.. At the close of the summer session examinations for state certificates will be conducted at the college by the State Department of Education. Teachers' Institute. At the close of the summer Session the Right Reverend Patrick Richard Heffron, D. D., Bishop of the diocese of Winona, will conduct an institute for all who are engaged in teaching in the various parochial schools of the diocese. The main points to be cov ered in the Institute will be: 1. School buildings. 2. Equipment necessary for stand ard grade and high schools.
