BRICK CHURCH ON COLLEGE AVE NUE FOR THE ITALIAN CATHO LICS NEARLY READY FOR OCCU PANCY—COST OVER $20,000— REV. H. CIEBATTONE PASTOR OF THE PARISH. We present herewith a picture of the new Church of the Holy Redeemer for tlio Italian Catholics of St. Paul, which is now beins furnished and made ready for occupancy as a place of divine worship. Barring unfore seen delays, the sacred edifice will be occupied by the congregation before Christmas. The date of the first Mass has not yet been definitely decided up on by the pastor, Rev. H. Ciebattone. It will depend entirely upon the prog ress made by those wlio are installing the interior furnishings. The new church has a seating ca pacity of six hundred and is large enough to accommodate all the mem bers of the congregation who, in the past, have worshipped in the tem porary Church of the Holy Redeemer and in the Church of St. Ambrose on Bradley street, which was opened a few years ago for the benefit of the Italian families residing in that part of the city. For years religious services for the Italians were held in the base ment of the old Cathedral. When that venerable structure was razed in Au gust, 1914, a place of worship was found for them in the basement chapel of the Church of the Assumption where they remained until a few months ago when the work of reno vating that church made it necessary for them to hold services iu the Cathe dral School Auditorium. The first%tep towards the construe tion of a permanent church for the Italian Catholics of this city was undertaken layt April 0. when a deed was signed transferring from Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dindorf to the Church of the Holy Redeemer a piece of prop erty on College avenue between St. Peter and Rice streets for a consider ation of $4,400. Later on, additional lots were secured at the back of the property facing on Tenth street for the residence of the pastor, and a house on the premises lias been fitted up for that purpose. The plans for the church were drawn by Mr. E. L. Masqueray, the architect of the new Cathedral, and in the early part of last July, the con tract for its construction was awarded to Oace and Amice of St. Paul, for $19,925. COLLEGE AVE., ST. PAUL FATHER C1EBATTONE, Pastor CHURCH OF THE HOLY REDEEMER l,v and was carried on so rapidly that the cornerstone was laid on August 25. The Church of the Iioly Redeemer is a brick structure, in the Italian style of architecture, with stone trim mings and stone foundation. It is 151 feet long and 46 feet wide, with full basement which will be furnished and equipped with a stage and othfer ac cessories for a parish hall. The fa cade has a tower at the left of the main entrance which raises to a height of 62 feet and is surmounted by a gilded cross. A flight, of stone steps leads to the main doors, of which there are three, opening from a vesti bule beneath the organ loft. At each side of the sanctuary there is a sacristy. The stone and brick work was done by L. Johnson of St. Paul, the cut stone being furnished by the Wm. Ul mer Stone Company, and the plaster and cement by the Northland Pine I v- 0. G. Curry of St. Paul the plumb ing and heating fixtures were installed by Leonard Sofie, also of this city, at a cost of $1,850, and the painting was done by B1. A. Bentzer. Nimis and Nimis were the electrical con tractors and the St. Croix Manufac turing Co. supplied the doors and the interior finish. Great credit is due to the pastor, Father Ciebattone, for the .splendid success which has crowned his efforts since he took charge of the parish about a year and a half ago. He has gained the good will and co-operation of his parishioners and out of their slender resources they have gener ously provided the necessary funds for the erection and furnishing of the new church which adds another artis tic structure to the religious edifices in the city.
