Suggests Mass in Exeter Cathedral. —The celebration of Mass in Exeter cathedral is the suggestion made by /s&iecT RE/uiN6 JaLEANINGS^ rz~s——^ A BUDGET SYSTEM. Living by a carefully made budget means using such intelligence in the spending of one's income that first the necessities and then those desires which are most worth while are ob tained. The successful "builget is the one which neglects none of the physical necessities, gives none of them an un due portion of the whole, and pro vides maximum amount of opportuni ty for the development of the mental and spiritual needs of life. Satisfaction with the results of our spending will come only when we feel that a fair proportion of our desires have been gratified. The quickest way to such gratification is through plan ning our spending, keeping our main purpose always in view. The family which is saving for a home will spend for other things with greater care than the family without such a goal. The child who is saving for a bicycle will find it comparative ly easy to deny himself an ice-cream cone. But the home and the bicycle are obtained more quickly if all spend ing is done with the home or bicycle in mind. WHAT PRODUCES FRECKLES. Old Sol is the real freckle dispenser. His rays, on their way to earth, fall alike on the just and the unjust and so the just and the unjust have freckles that is, those who have skins built for freckles—generally persons of fair complexion and hair. Some people never have freckles because their skin is not the same as that ot the freckled ones. The action of the sun on the skin, of persons of light complexion causes a yellowish or brownish substance to exude from the second layer of skin and forms freckles. Some people even have permanent freckles, but in most people the freckles disappear when the summer is ended and they are bundled up in \va,rjn clothing when out of doors. TOO MUCH FOR AIRPLANE. Efforts to make use of airplanes for the purpose of assisting in the ef forts to scale high mountains have not been attended with any great suc cess. In the Alps, the varying condi tions of the snow surface have been a serious' detriment to making Vandings and "getaways." Again, on heights above 15,000 feet, the rarity of the air begins to affect the steering and control of an airplane. At 20,000 feet, pilots say, control for landing is doubtful and at still higher levels it is impossible. Qf course, planes have climbed to more tton 36,000 feet with "THE SOLITAIIRE* '41 All diamonds sold by us are guar anteed perfect in quality, color and cutting. The suggestion arose out of the re quest of Gipsy Smith, a Protestant evangelist, who is possibly as well known in the United States as he is in England, to the Dean of Exeter for the use of the cathedral for his fare well mission service. .The request was refused, and out of the refusal Father Barney made his suggestion. He proves that it is a good one by stat ing that if the Dean and Chapter would allow him to sing High Mass in the cathedral, he could vouch not only for the attendance of his own flock, but also many, if not all, of the high church Anglicans in the city who, in Father Barney's own words, "use the term 'Holy Mass' as familiarly as we do." Catholic Congress in Luxemburg,— Several conferences dealing with ma terial and spiritual problems affecting Catholics throughout the world, are planned to take place in Luxemburg from July 31 to August 3, 1922, under the auspices of the International Con gress for Catholic Action. The con gress is being promoted by the Inter national League for Catholic Defense. The conferences are to concern them selves with international Catholic re lations and co-operation the federa tion of Catholic youth in the different countries the promotion of Catholic missions, including the lay apostolate in England, Belgium, Germany, Aus tria and Scandinavia the pacification of the world in accordance with the program of Pope Benedict XV the adoption and extension of an interna tional auxiliary language as the me dium for co-operation between Cath olic nations the discussion and study Of social questions, and the encour agement of the Catholic press. It is also intended to arrange a conference regarding women's movements and questions affecting their interests and position in present society. FOR THE FAM«LV.
