Wants Rural High School
Iantha is going to try this spring to
organize the first rural high school to be
Btarted in Barton county At the spring
election tbo Farmers district to the
north and the Cross Roads district to
the south and the Iantha district will
vote upon a plan to consolidate the
three distriots into one If this is done
BChool will continue to be held in the
Cross Roads and the Farmers school
bouses for tbo bonofit of the pupils in
the lower and primary grades but the
pupils perhaps from the sixth up will
go to a high school maintained at Ian
tha One school board will disburse All
the money and employ all ot the teach

The skating rink continues to
draw its crowds Manager Long
of the skating rink has announced
a mask ball at the rink next
Wednesday night and the young

A large shipment of new tables camo
in Wednesday and yesterday wore
placed in readiness for service Monday
For some time there has been shortage
of tables but somo fifty more Btudonts
can now be accomodated
Tho large shorthand and typewriting
rooms bove become so crowded that it
has been necessary to open up a new
typewriting department A number of
typewriting desks and eight new Under
wood machines havo been added to tho

charge of the new typewriting depart

graduate of a business college in touch

and anxiety for good writing by careful
attention during tho general lectures
given by Mr Van Kirk the expert pen
man Mr Van Kirks method of rapid

young people right here in Jasper coun

a Draughon college students gets the
first month he gets out of school The
young people ot this section aro energet
ic and as a rule make fairly good use
of our public and high school but the
trouble is they stop too soon Every
young person should attend a first class
business college and without a doubt

Taka Club Entertains
The Taka Club met Wednesday
afternoon March i6th wkh Mrs
J A Cozatt The ladies in this
club are becoming adepts at the
comely art of neGdlecraft At
these weekly meetings the ladies
exchange helpful ideas along this
line and there is always in evi
dence a handsome and attractive
variety of needlework However
the ladies do not limit themselves
entirely to work as diversions are
not infrequent occurtences and
this meeting proved a gala one
there being mirth and fun galore
One of the features of the aftei
tainment was a Pat contest
which caused each lady to lay
aside the favorite handiwork and
center her thoughts for a time up
on the honored Pat The study
of these conundrums ptoved highly
interesting and brought forth
much clever amusement
Refreshments consisting of bis
cuits warm from the oven with
butter salad pickles coffee pine
apple ice cake and candy were
served by the hostess assisted by
Mmes Ross Dodd Thomas Hard
away and Homer Bayne Once a
month the club is entertained in
this fashion which is the leading
social function of the club aside
from their yearly Thanksgiving
banquet when their husbands and
immediate families aie the guest of
honor Each lady was presented
with a bow of green ribbon and
the near approach of St Patricks
day was made noticeable when a
little later these ladies appeared on
the street bedecked with the Irish
patriots favorite color
Those present besides the ladies

and Chas Ward Miss Fox was a
club guest
The M E South ladies have se
cured the Jasper hotel building as
a location for their annual bazaar
Which is to be held this year on
Saturday April ad Ice cream
and cake will be served all day and
evening The special display will
be aprons Everybody invited

One Saloon Quits
Gone But Not Forgotten was
the legend that appeared Sunday
morning on the door of the Palace
saloon at Carthage The plane
closed Saturday at midnight its
license being the first to expire at
Carthage since the local option
election For a few day prior to
its closing the proprietors held
what they chose to call a fire sale
of fire water and many thirsty
ones laid by a supply of booze for
the long dry days to come
