Missouri is beginning to make a noise in the business and Indus trial world like the buzz of much machlnory and the hurrying to and fro of armies of business men. Now that this grand old stato in permanently separated from the solidly Democratic south her growth wilt be marvelous. Tiie President is staying in Washington with Congress not withstanding more pleasing plans which ho had made for the eutn mer. Like all other men in pub lic and commercial life he would be pleased to see the flow of ora tory cease and note the result of final roll calls on the tariff bill. Chinamen like pretty white girls "alio same likee 'Mellcan man," and they seem to have a charm for susceptible American women who haven't sense enough to de tect the guile of the heathen. Our young women can find devils enough among young men of their own race without trying the Mon golian typ". About this time next year the candidates for party nomination will bo sweating under the press ure of campaign anxiety and will pay little heed to the thermometer. The primary campaign of 1010 will be a hot .one. Hepublican candi dates will be plentiful and the Democratic candidates will be numerous enough to make the game Interesting. Dave Ball is still a thorn in the flesh of the old guard Democrats. Imbued with the thought that the honest leaders and voters of his party want to make a governor of him, he will not yield to entreaties irom the old guard Democrats, or be frightened with their threats. He will run for the Democratic nomination for governor, if he lives until 1912 and Pike county politicians never count on dying till old age has taken away every power of utterance and locomo-'tlon.. The Senate that dreadfully slow body of distinguished men, young and old has talked tariff and listened to tariff talk till the country is weary. Yet it is w ell to remember that' Republican sen ators, not the Democrats, are to be held responsible for final tariff COAL We offer Coal at the fol lowing prices, delivered on or before Sep'tl, '09. 6-inch Mt. Prosperity from the Fields. ' In this latitude the harvest of winter wheat is already well ad vanced. It some counties it is practically finished. The yield is large and its quality excellent. A large crop of winter wheat is as sured. For a great yield offspring wheat tho outlook is as good as it over is at this season. The acreage of corn is large an d the plant is growing finely. Un less there comes an excess of drought or rain in July we, shall have a great crop of the native American cereal. Unfavorable re ports from tho cotton fields, sent abroad possibly lor purposes of speculation, have become less fre quent and there is every reason to expect a good yield of that staple'. The extraordinary feature, of tho crop situation in the closing days of June is that, in splto of the large yields expected, the commer cial exchanges of the country re fleet the belief that there .will be' ready demand for all that is pro duced, and that cotton, corn -and VheatyWill command high prices after ,all3heJ harveste are..done. . If, the, forecasts' . of tho traderq turns out to bedrrect, more' mon. United States during the comln g fall and winter than has over gone to them in any previous season . It should be liberally used for the purchase of everything that a far mer needs, and the surplus will go into the local banks for a stimulus to business and Industry in the farming districts. The country all around St. Louis will be full of money. The rail roads centering in St. Louis and Chioago will have all that they can do to haul the crops to market, and the traffic ought to make the railroad men happy. "When the farmers are prosper ous, everybody prospers." If that saying does not come true this year it will be becanse the long wrangle over the tariff keep a enterprise on the anxious seat un til too late in the season.
