PURDY ITEMS Our fathers a;ul mothers who lived in country towns used constantly to go out to watch with sick people, sitting up all n'irht after a tiresome day's labor. There were but few nurses then, and most of the labor of caring for the sick was done by this volun teer help. People lived closer to the suffering and the poor in those days, and when anyone needed assistance everyone knew it, and took hold to help. The spirit of hospitality was more prevalent in those times. Families Would give a home for months and years to unfortunate relatives, freely supplying- them with food .and cloth ing.
