Historical Material leslrcd by The Htate Historical society of Missouri. The Constitution of the State Historical Society of Missouri provides that ' its object shall j be the collection, preservation, exhibition ind publication f materials for the study of hi-s tory of this state and of the Middle West." In realizing this object the Society desires in the first place to collect everything that can in any way shed light upon the history of Missouri, from its earliest set tlement to the present tune. It is often the case that such ma terial. which is of little or on importance to the individual who possesses i'. become ol great value when incorporated as a part of a library of refer ence on all historical matters With a view to encouraging the contribution of such material o its library, the State Histori cal Society publishes the !l lowing list of objects particular ly desired by the Society: 1 Books and pamphlets re lating to Missouri or to any of its subdivisions; county or other local histories or narra tives. 2, Books and pamphlets written by Missourians. The Society possesses one of the most extensive collection of books by Missouri authors m existence, and desires to make the same as complete as pos sible. .'!. Manuscripts: Any original documents containing accounts of the early settlements of Mis souri or the Lousiana Territory ; or of the various movements af fecting the history of the State oi in which its citizens have participated, from the early re lations with the Indians through the French and Spanish periods to the events that have occur red under American rule. Old letters, journals and accounts written by pioneers are espec ially desired. The Society lias the use of a lire pro i vault in which valuable manuscripts will be preserved. I Official State Reports and Documents: Copies of the Re vised Statutes, Session Acts, Journals and Appendixes of the Territorial and early State Legislatures; Messages of the Governors and Reports of State Officers, Boards and Commis sions and of the State educa tional, charitable, eleemosy nary and penal and reformatory institutions. 5. Reports and Documents of Counties, Cities, etc., Ordi nances, Journals and Reports of City Councils. Reports of May or and other City Officials. Re ports of Boards of Health. Pire and Police Departments, Re ports of Trade and Commercial and Business Men's Associa tions. Plats of town sites and additions thereto. b. Reports and Documents of Educational Institutions: Catalogues, Schemes of Studies, Reports, Bulletins, etc., of Uni versities, . Colleges. Academies and Public Schools; Reports of School Boards, School Superin tendents, College and School Associations, Teachers' As sociations, Students' Clubs and Associations, University Exten sion Societies, and anything which touches upon the educa tioual life of the State. 7. Reports of Societies and Organizations: Annual and other reports of all kinds of social, religious, industrial aud politic) organizations: reports and published documents of fraternal societies, literary as socia lions, press associations, athletic organizations, women's clubs, social clubs, etc.: reports of all religions bodies, synods, conferences, conventions and associations; reports of rail roads, manufacturing Compa nies and commercial coipora tions; reports of agricultural and horticultural organizations and of all meetings and pro ceedings connected with the development ol the industrial, commercial, agricultural min eral or other resources of the State; leports. platforms, dec larations, etc., of all political parties. 8. Piles of Missouri News papers and periodicals: The Society is now receiving and binding over 500 newspapers representing nearly every conn ly in Missouri. Complete vol nines of the issues of past years of all Missouri newspapers are , especially desired. '.. Maiis. Engravings. Paint lings. Photographs, etc.; Maps of the Louisiana Territory of Missouri, of Counties. Town ships. Cities, etc.: Pictures of any kind representing historic i places, buildings, etc. 10. Historical Relics: Pho tographs and other portraits of pioneers and distinguished citi zens; Autographs of the same; Medals; Coins; War Relics; Old Arms, Weapons, etc.; Histori cal Souvenirs of all kinds. 11. Indian Relics: Stone Axes, Spears, Arrow Heads, Pottery, Weapons, Costumes, Ornaments, etc. The Society cordially invites all person to assist it in devel oping a great State historical library and museum by contrib uting any of the above objects or anything that has any bear ing upon the history of Missou ri. The Society will defray all freight charges upon such do nations and all contributions will be credited to the donors, in the official reports made by this Society to the Governor of the State, and will be preserv ed and made accessible to all the people.
