go no further than l'nciflo .1 unction, so
wo took tho C. U. & (i.east to Malvern,
then tho Wabash northwest to tholtltit.s

over any line, and our llttlo party con

wo took u stroll up tlie bluffs out of

Our communications are cut off from
the upper Missouri country and wo can
form no Idea of tho nmouut yet to come.
The It. I. round house anil all other
buildings in that vicinity tiro standing
from two to ten teot in water, and ttlll
tho water is rising.
Kvory ninn that can procure tools
and lumber Is constructing boats.
It Is almost impossible to secure a
wagon and team at any price.
Streets which are above tho water are
so muddy that It requires four good hor
ses to draw a Pglit load.
Uy tho uso of our glass wo could see
two trains p!ylng between1 tho washout
A-cst of the Union depot and Oinalia.but
could not tell what they were doing.
All tho hotels in the upper part of
town are crowded, and private families
hare opened their doors and extended
their hospitality to strangers.
The high bluU's east of town consti
tute one vast camp of homeless inhabi
tants, but so far most all their hou-es
still stand, yet many of them' nro tilled
with wator to the second Sioiy, but ft
north wind would drive tho ico agalnvi
them and soon they would bo swept
away.
No trains except the Wabash lmvo left
hero sinec yesterday, and if the water
continues to rise at the present rate, not
a train can eomo in or go out by noon
to morrow.
It was quite cold this morning nud
many men, learns and wagons that got
wet carried ice on them until nearly
noon.
Tho excitement is not so great as one
would expect under the circumstances
