Monday. After hunting all over the
mill for one of the bosses, we found
big beailed, laughing Levi, who shook
hands with US', passed the compliments
of the day, but never laughed not
even sailed. Thinking il strange not
to hear oue ot those laughs of which
outy Levi is capable we inrpired il he
was sick. His reply was: "No, have
not time to laugh or talk would like
to have you st-ty but have uo ti mo to
talk to you." On inquiring for
"Cap," he replied: "Just gone up to
the bank to deposit some money keeps
one of us on the road between the mill

On last Saturday night about 1 1 :30
the bottom fell out of the Burlington
Junction private gambling den and the
inmates found themselves iu a man
trap. Those who found themselves thus
eutrappeil go to breakfast to tho roll
call of Dr. May, Wade .lones.Bill Sales,
and John Piunel. They woro arretted
in the second s'ory the Star grocery
building, leased and occupied by L. B.
Chrissinger as an office. They were
held until Monday when they plead
guilty to the charge of gambling, in
Mayor Bollinger's court and were wach
fined $26 and c jsts. Mr. Chrissmger,
who was alaep iu an adjoining room,
wa arrested on tne charge of allowing,
or permitting gambling on Ins premises
and on trial was convicted and fined
.$50 aud costs. This conviction was a
serious matter with Mr. Chnsfinger
and was a surpri-e to m.-.ny. lie wa- a
ju'ticeof the peace at the tinni of his
conviction but has since resigned. His
offense is punishable by a heavy pen

ported to us as being ono of the best in
the l.istory of rhc society. Mr. Murray
ot this county had Somo celory on cv

of the Loess Hills," was the title of an
essay by Mr. Laujhliu of this county.
