On very bad cold days the Uebels would come in and try to enlist us in the Kebel army, promisim; good clothes and plenty to eat, but we were loyal to our llatf and country; wo hail swore to lie loyal to the government; one of my comrades would have enlisted, had not the rest of us told him if he attempted to wo would choke him lo death, and we wouln. I' was shot at once while in Andersonville, but tho Johnney's aim was not good. Oil the ltli of March we were all taken out and paroled, then put back in prison. Next morning il.O'jO were taken out and cut to Vicksiiurg to our lines. The fol lowing miming about the tame number were sent to Yicksburg and the neU , dav about the eamo number were sent, then the Ilebels told us what were left that tho union men would not receive my more of ns at Yicksburg, so they started south with us; took us about CO miles down towards Florida; then they told us our people would not receive us in Florida, so wo were countermarched back to Andersonville ami the old gate locked on us ngain. The prisoners died very fast after wo were put buck. On tho 21th of March, lSw, about 12 o'clook it niglit, tho gate was thrown open and wo marched out ami got on tue cars; there were :i,:(IO of us. Yo left several hundred 111 prison that could not walk; wo were shipped to Macon, Ga.;got there iboilt day light; were no unloaded; the commander general, Pillow.then incom- mand at Macon, told Captain W'irtz to take us to Jacksonville, Fla., and give us up to tho federals there; bo said the country was full of Yankees and ir mo Yankees attacked him for him to leave the prisoners and get away if he could: how we did wish our P.ojs in lilue would capture us; the engines were put on tho other end or our cars and we took the back track, back past the old hateful Andersonville prison where we hnd suf fered death many tunes over. Fifty miles south of Ander.-onvillo at Albany, on Flint river, we came to tho end of the railroad, got olT cars, crossed the river on a covered bridge. Yo met n negro on the bridge with a load of corn and wo soou had the last ear or it. The guards did not try to stop us from taking the corn: they were getting bettor to us all the lime since they "had heard our friends were in the country around there; after crossing the river wo went into camp close to the river at a big spring; next morning drew what tho Ilebels called three days' rations (eat it at 0110 mei.l) lo last us until wo got to Thoma6ville, (X) miles; just before we marched I was sitting against a pino tree watching my rations and O'Neal's, Joe had gone planking and ho fell in with another 103 and drew returns again. The rate does not increase with age. Instead of being more cosUy, as the agents or solicitors for other societies state, the older members of the A. O. U.
