Isaac Tyson shipped in the hog on Tuesday for breeding purposes that was a whopper. It weighs upward of 700 pounds. Mound City News. Mrs. Frankie Hinde and children are visiting in Hamilton, this state, the guest of her mother, Mrs. Amanda Cox. She will likely remain there until after Christmas. Mrs. Alice Maple has returned from Meade, Corning and Stafford counties, Kansas, where she had been visiting relatives for a few weeks. While there she filed on 160 acres in Meade county. Dr. Horace Allen, veterinarian, of Tarkio, was in town for a few hours, one day, last week. There are no nicer fellows than the Doctor we wish him success. He had been visiting his mother in the Marion school district. Malcom W. Mathews, of this city, and Miss Carmen E. Rodgers, of Bliss- tield, Mich., were quietly married at the Evangelical parsonage, in that city, on Wednesday of this week, December 12, 1900, by the pastor of the church. Our young friend has host of friends who extend to him their sincere congratula tions, wishing the- couple a long and prosperous life. John Kenuish, the Republican nom inee for the long term on the supreme court bench, spent but $200 in his cam paign, according to his statement filed with Secretary of State Swanger. All of this amount he contributed to the state campaign committee. Frank Fulkerson, the Republican nominee congress, in this district, spent $dO. for Of this amount $71.75 went for railroad fare and the rest for miscellaneous ex penses. Mound City News. Hi Montgomery, of Skidmore, made a brief visit with his parents, Robert Montgomery and wife, one day, last week. Warrie Walker has "hiked out" for the Sunny Southland. Mrs Katy Irvine, of Kansas City, Mo., was here for a few days, last week, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Ir vine, and Mrs. India Price and family. The bankers of this section of our state held their annual meeting i in St. Joseph, this week. Holt county was represented by M. C. Brumbaugh, of Maitland; J. A. Williams, of Forbes; C. F. Hamsher, of Mound City; G. L Cummins, of Oregon; Edward Heaton, of Craig. W. S. Stephenson, the horse buyer, from Wilmington, Delaware, who was here last Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Gelvin's barn, buying horses, bought 15 head, paying good prices for all of them. He is a hustler, a gentiemaa, ana thor oughly understands his business. He will be here again, at Gelvin's barn, Fri day and Saturday, Dec. 21 and 22, and at Fillmore, Monday, Dec. 24. The Oregon stores and shops were never so beautiful before. The mer chants have surpassed their previous splendid records in their collections and displays of Christmas goods, and no where else can purchasers find better stock from which to make their selec tions. There is no excuse this year for our people going abroad to buy any thiug. Everything in the way of de sirable presents ?s here in abundance. It is to be hoped that not only our local merchants, but all within the confines of Old Holt will enjoy a splendid and sat isfactory holiday trade, for they deserve it. There is much complaint, and de servedly, too, from the rural carriers on account of the condition of the roads at the present time. With a very little work, by dragging, the roads can now be put in good shape for the winter. It will only take a little time to get them in shape, and right NOW is the time, for at any moment it may freeze up, and then nothing can be done. It behooves patrons of rural routes to see that the roaas are Kept in gooa suape ior tnis is one of the requirements necessary to have rural routes instituted and op erated, and if this is not done, some of the routes may be ordered discontinued. Now, this is NOT and an idle threat. The Department, if complaint is made, which is likely to be done, will cause an investigation to be made, and if they find the roads in bad shape, look out you are likely to lose your route. The routes from Oregon need attention, and need it right NOW. Take a little time and fix them up for winter. Lin Carroll had the misfortune to severely burn his right hand, Saturday last, Dec. 8, while trying to light the gasoline pot at Schulte Bros. He is now getting along all right, but has a pretty sore hand. We are more than pleased to hear of the prosperous condition of the Ben ton school. Hoover, has sold his farm cf 128 acres, lying about three miles northwest of Oregon, to Fred Cromer, receiving $6,700. Pierce and wife royally entertained the members of the foot ball team, Saturday evening, Dec. 1. Oysters and their accessories were served. A guessing contest was in dulged in and the prize was won by Will Moore. The boys all say that they never no never will forget the Doctor and his wife. We Were Arrestee for selling goods too cheap in Forest City on flonday.
