the naming of commissioners to as
sess damages and benefits in the Lit
tle Tarkio Drainage District, have

John Meek is now in jail, on the
charge of intoxication while on a
train. He was in trouble last Janu
ary on the charge of petit larceny
stealing an overcoat from the Meyer
& Fuller store at Mound City.
The United States government
has notified Missouri authorities that
the Spanish war veterans of the Third
and Fourth regiments, National
Guards of Missouri, will get 555,002
for services in -the Spanish war.
W. G. Gano, after whom theGano
apple is said to have been named,dled
at his home near Parkville, July 20,
1910, at the age of 71 years. He had
been a member of the Missouri Horti
cultural society for twenty years.
Wednesday of last week, 20th in
stant, fire destroyed the barn belong
ing to John Ferguson, living in the
Benton district. A lot of hay, har
ness, etc., were destroyed. The fami
ly was away from home at the time.

Ed. Burge, who leftnorthern Holt
in the spring, is back among his old
time friends. He is interested in a
land company of Monte Vista, Col.,
and is arranging for an excursion to
that, country, expecting to leave the
last of this week or the first of next.
Bert Atkinson, living near the
Big Lake, has threshed his wheat and
sold it easily at 90c per bushel: he had
nineteen acres that brought him $480
or a little over $25 per acre. The long
dry season has put the wheat in ex
cellent condition for immediate
threshing.
The farmer who becomes pos
sessed of that he must "buy more
land to raise more corn to feed more
hogs to bin- more land to raise more
corn to feed more hogs" is on the
road that drives his children from the
farm and himself and his wife to early
graves.
It is rumored that a number of
former citizens of the vicinity of Craig
wiio have located at Cheyenne Wells,
Col., are coming back next fall. The
