The high school reception tender ed the graduating class last Friday night at the west school building was a very pleasant affair. An ex cellent program was rendered and lelteshments served. Piof. C. Teacher will be elected Monday May 23. Miss Agnes Still rame in from Salida, Colo., last week on a visit to her mother and family for a shoit time. Church was filled at the evening hour, it being the occasion of the delivery of the baccalaureate sermon to the gradu ating class of ihe Uich Hill High School. Kev. C. C James deliv ered the sermon and it is highly spoken of on every hand as being one of ihe most piactical and pro titatde ever pleached in our city. Strickland and Mis Elsie G arris jr., of thi city, were united in marriage at Coffey ville, Kan., Wednesday of last wetk. Both are well-known to all Uich Hill people. There will be band concerts and chorus singing, Boys will race, a 30 yd. dash, for those under 12 years; a fifty yd. dash for those between 12 and 16; and a 100 yd. dash for those over 16 yrs. The girls are also to race, a 30 yd. dash for girls under 12 years; 50 yd. dash for those between 12 and 15 years: and 60 yd. dash for those over 16 yrs. The ladies and girls will partici pate in an egg race. There will be a potato race for the boys and lemon races for the girlv Special features will be a three leggtd race, sack race, sack race and fat and lean man's race. On last Friday night the banking house of the Metz Banking Co. was entered by burglers, the safe blown open and about $2,000 stolen. The safe was ruined but the build ing, which is a new and substantial brick structure, was not hurt. A number of the citizena were awak ened by the explosion but the rob bers had secured their booty, and were gone, before thev could be captured. It is believed there were three of the party and that they went west towards Fort Scott in a rubber tired buggy. Tbe tools us ed were stolen from the Mo. Pac. tool house. The tank i a branch ot the Rich Hill bank and on Satur day morning Mr. W. F. Tygard, the piesidcut, took the necessary funds down lo replace the amount stolen and the bank opened at once for business as usual. The bank is fully insured in ihe Ranker Pro tection Association.
