' Tliose who know Mr. Overbey
best will be most enthusiastic in
his support He is eminently
qualified to till this position; is a

Cloud Proverb.
There can be no doubt that
those who observe the clouds can
make pretty shrewd truosst s as
to the weather for the next twen
ty four hours. Proverbs relating
to clouds are numerous, and we
give 11 few of them:
Anvil -idmped clouds are very
likely to be followed by u gale of
wind.
When upon clear days isolated
clouds drive over the zenith from
the rain-wind hide, htorm and
rain follow within twcnt-four
hours.
If the sky become darker,
without much rain, and diid-s
into two layers of clouds, expect
isudden gusts of wind.
J J rasy -colored clouds in the
west Ht sunset indicate wind.
If you see clouds going cros
wind, there Is a storm in the air.
If a layer of thin clouds drive
up from the northwest, and
under other clouds moving inor
to the south, expect line weather.
Clouds in the east, obscuring
the nun, indicate fair weather.
If clouds at the name height
drive up with the wind and grad
ually Income thinner and debt-end,
expect fine weather.
If the clouds be of different
heights, the sky being grayish
or blue, with hardly any vino
stirring, the wind however,
changing from west to Nouth,
expect htorm.

Hon. (leo. 15. Kllis is sending
out to the newspapers a coy of
resolutions adopted by a CihkI
I toads Convention recently held
ut Columbia, together with the
following letter:
My Dear Sir: Are you inter
ested in good roads? I believe
vim nre unilifuil :im win-., vim
will agree with me that if we
cvtr brinx alxut an impn(l
condition in road matters in Mis
souri, the iieople must get to
get her on some definite plan.
Recently u State Convention was
held in this city for the purpose
of considering the road question.
This Convention was participat
ed in by the members of the
county courts from twenty-tliree
c unities in the state. After de.
liberating on the subject for two
days, u few general principles
were agreed Umhi as stated in
the enclosed resolutions. We.
would like to ask your support J
in this matter, and if you can j
consistently agree to these, gen
eral principles, or to any one of
them, we would be glad to have
you help us along with this
movement for the betterment of
the roads of the slate. There
Hre t wo very important (uet ions
to consider in this campaign:
tirst. the raising of revenue; .sec
ond, the question of skilled su
pervision, without either one
we cannot have good roads. All
the people of the. state, the rail
roads and oilier corporations are
interested in better roads; and
why not levy small state tax
similar to our state school tax to
assist us in this work.
Hoping to have your co opera
tion ia this movement and thank
ing you for any suggestions that
you may make, I remain,
Yours truly,
(Ji:o. 11. Ki.i.is. Sec.
