IBS & COMMERCIAL STREET PHONE SM M: Salem July 25 to 31 Your Profit On Advertised ap . Goods A Safe Road The Big Dollar A Store You Like Advertising Cuts Prices Makes Money Travel Far AN EDITORIAL ON" BUYING As the housewife or the head of a home you are interested at present in a very practical way in all that pertains to the health, happi ness and greater comfort of all those near and dear to you. If conditions exist in the administration of your home which either waste money or fail to save money up to 100 possibilities, you want to know about them. More than that, you want to familiarize yourself with methods that will make for maximum efficiency and give to your every spending dollar its full power of productiveness- When you go into a store and see merchan - dise with which you have become familiar through ad-ertising, make up your mind that you are in the right kind of a store There are many such stores. You will find that they are always well-managed and pros jerous there is invariably an air about them that invites your patronage. If you have other wants than advertised merchandise, it is more than likely that you will be inclined to have them filled before you leave that you will not question the integrity of whatever else you buy. And though you may not realize it, there is a very excellent reason for such an attitude of mind on your part. Advertising, as you know, ELEVATES THE QUALITY AND LOWERS THE PRICE OF GOODS. Here is the process: When a manufacturer gjves publicity to a worthy product, he creates a demand for it. That demand makes possible volume of produc tion. Volume of production reduces manufacturing costs as far as the individual article is con cerned. Likewise it reduces selling costs. In consequence, the merchant buys at a standard price and sells at a minimum standard profit per sale. Advertising by increasing sales makes lower prices mean more money to the merchant more money's worth to the consumer. The function of advertising is five-fold. To enlighten or educate to create new wants or to satisfy old ones to protect and foster legitimate enterprises to establish a medium of understanding between buyer and seller as a basis for mutual profit and advan tage to fix an economical price and the main tenance of a standard of quality. Stores which employ advertising make their names stand as a guarantee of goods just as nianufacturers do their trade-marks. This the consumer is often doubly assured. So the road that is bordered by the advertis ing column-rules of a publication is the safe road for the buying public. It leads to first quality and full value always. If you will keep this one fact firmly fixed in your mind you will not be disappointed On the contrary, your money go farther and what you buy will j JournaifariirAs py give comp.ete JOVEJtAL WANT ADS PAT
