A letter for the Girls. 0 planting Trees and Shrubbery Culture of J lower Making Home attractive. Come, gitfe, get your sunbonnets, find your old gloves, put on your thick shoes, and come out in the sunshine. It is quite time to begin to think of your out-doors work. In a fear weeks it 'will be time for gardening, and it is already time to see about improving your door-yards. f -Have you trees and shrubbery about the door, to invite the birds and the cool breezes to gladden your homes in the summer? If not; now is the time.; . Coax those tall brothers of yours to take the spade, and an old axe, if neccessary, and go with you to the borders of the forest to procure shade trees. , --' ' - Take some of those thrifty maples and elms, and transplant them in front tf the house. They are so free from the annoyance of worms and insects, that you need not fear to place them in close prox imity to your dwelling. - , . Then there is the tribe of poplars that will add a most agreeable variety by.the color of their foliage, and the beauty of their proportions. The box-wood, though not quite so symmetrical in its form, will more than redeem itself by its snowy blossoms in spring and its crimson leaves in autumn. .If you can find a few evergreens to mingle with the rest, and a few sprouts of the locust, you can make almost an Eden of your little door-yard, at the cost of a few mornings labor. : 'Five years hence, you would not part with these cheaply purchased embelishments for a hundred times the labor. . I wonder if you have any rose bushes about your premises ? . If pou have not, your neighbors have, and I know they would not grudge a few small roots, that by a little care will in a few years add much w ne oqauty oi your comes, a cumoing rose, trained over the window, and a honeysuckle ever the porch, will pay in perfumery for the little trouble they cost ; and any of your friends who possess them will be happy to ard you if they see you bent on improving your grounds. A small slip of hon eysuckle that would be trimmed ff and thrown away as a useless pruning, can be buried in the same ' manner that grape slips are, and in a few years you will have a beautiful vine to embelish your arbor. .. . By the way, dont forget how easily grapes are cultivated, and what a luxury they afford. Keep an eye out and when there is an opportunity, se cure a few doeens fine 6lips, and get your father to appropriate a few rods of ground for the purpose of cultivating them. - By the time these mattters are ail seen to thoroughly, you will find the weather suitable to begin garden work. . ; Now don't Took sour about it, and say it isn't la dy like to work in the garden. I told you to get your gloves on purpose to keep your hands from being needlessly soiled, and your complexion will be preserved from the sun by a good sun-bonnet; while the vigor and buoyancy acquired by exercise in the open air will give a tone , of beauty much more desirable than any "interesting paleness," yoa can secure by sitting roomed up in the house all day. r ' ' ' ; . " Get an appropriation of ground for a flower bed or two, if possible. If not, see to it that the beds for common vegetables are bordered with flowers, plant some around the doors and windows too some pretty running plant like the morning glory, cypress vine, flowering pea, or bean, and see to it that they do not get choked out with weeds. 4 - -'Half an hour every day, will plant the seeds and keep in fine order an amount of beauty truly aston ishing. The humblest log cabin in Ohio, can be made an attractive home by a little labor that should rather be called a pastime. -. Perhaps you think your fathers will hardly smile on your efforts. It may be that they even speak contemptuously of flowers. If so there is need of a better ministration to their spirits. , I never yet met with the man who was not pleased after once witnessing a successful effort to make home cheerfuj by such simple adomings. . "When we remember that flowers are the gift of God to his children, rendered -so cheap, in their peerless loveliness, that the meanest condition of life may be embellished by them, it seems almost a sin to neglect them, and the gentle influences they Vrtniv vast lioarf Q . I fear we do not sufficiently estimate the effect of these things upon human character. The gen tle lessons, the holy feelings inspired by contempla tion of these innocent emblems, cannot possibly fail to render our hearts purer and better if we receive them aricht - ' ' . ' ' ' " ' . Enter upon this work then, my dear girls, as minis termor to a higher part or your nature man mere fancy, since every form of beauty is one of uod s lessons or love to bis creatures .: Look tip the flower-seeds, exchange with your neighbors and let the beauty of your homes testify to the cheerful industry of your hands. It is upon the principle of inseusible perspiration, asex- hiblted in this cut, that the human body delivers itself of impurities and disease. "The blood being the life of the flesh" according to the scriptures, it must be kept pure to insure heal th. - This it does by its own heat and action through the system, elaborating all impurity, and cast ing off all its worn out particles, which are carried out of the system, through the pores of the skin. When, how ever, the skin becomes locked up from sudden changes of weather, or any undue application of cold, all the hu mors, and virulent particles ol the blood are retained Willi. and sickness and death must loiiow. All me long catalogue of diseases sre the result. We have under such circumstances, discovered a remedy that will open the pores and assist the body to cast off any offending humor. It is M'ALLISTER'S ALL-HEALING OINTMENT OR THE WORLD'S SALVE. It opens those avenues throuoh which nature carries off the impurities within, and thus relieves the body of disease. It is by acting upon this principle that it is proved to be one of the most extraordinary medicines the world ever saw. Its success in cunngdisease is altogether unprece dented in the annals of Medical jurisprudence. This we inieht demonstrate bv the publication oi thou sands of certificates from individuals of high standingin all parts of the United States, who have expepienced its astonishing efficacy in the healing of the most afflicting maladies to which mankind is subject. But we appeal to a candid and enlightened public, and only ask that the numerous cures which are being enecied oy tnis oint ment wherever it has been used may secure for it that reputation which it merits that due attention be paid to the directions contained in the envellopea in which the boxes of Ointment are enclosed, as well as the Circu lars in the hands of our Agents. RODGER'SND COMPOU SYRUP OF ' Liverwort and Tar.- ' A safe and certain cure for Consumption of the Lungs, spitting of blood, coughs, colds, asthma, pain in the side, bronchitis, whooping cough, and all pulmonary affections. The following is a certificate of Mr. Wm. J. Rich ards, of Cincinnati, a well known practitioner of more than twenty years standing: To all whom it may concern, 1 make the following statement: Conscious that it may appear unprolessional, it is only from a perfect conviction and thorough knowl edge of t.ie essential benefit and scientific origin of the preparation spoken of, that 1 feel constrained from a sense of duty to comply with the request of the proprietor. I am a most inveterate opposer of quacks and quack medicines in any form, and most fully coincide with the clauses m the code of ethics lately adopted by the med ical convention of Ohio, relating particularly to that sub ject; it may therefore be inferred that it is only from per sonal experiment with the preparation, and a positive as surance of its beneficial resultB, that induces me to lecom- mend it as being all that it represents itself to be. The patient, Mr. Charles Wade, sixth street, market space, whom I have allowed to try the effect of the med icinebut which I conld have done under no considera tion whatever, had I not seen a copy of the receipt from which the medicine is prepared, obtained from the agent, and which I am satisfied is autheutx was quite low with tneeany stages oi pulmonary consumption, for whtch 1 liau beeen treating in the usual manner, though with less than my ususal success: at his earnest request, and thai of my friends, I examined the receipt, and was sufficient ly satisfied of its scientific composition to allow the trial, and I am obliged to confess its effect was at least surpris ing, inasmuch, that aller the consumption ot the second bottle, my professional visits were discontinued, though 1 requently saw my patient atterward, restored to perfect health The preparation is called ' Mr. Rodger's Compound Strup of Liverwort and Tar," and from the exami nation of the receipt and the success in mv own exper iment, I do conscientiously recommend it as a useful and valuable medicine, and I would urge my brother practitjone-s to procure the receipt, as I feel couvineed they will agree with me as to its excellence, and will no doubt use it in the practice, as 1 shall most certainly do, believing to be a most voluable aid in pulmonary cases that bafle the ordinary mode of treatment. Oct. 4. 1844 Astonishing cure of Mrs. Benjamin Smith, living on the north side or Ann street, oue square north of the Cin cinnati hospital This is to certify that my wife was attacked with a vi olent cough, which settled upon her lungs, and reduced her so low that her physician could do no more tor her. She exhibited precisely the same symptoms as my daugh ter did before her death, she having died with the same disease, and all our friends were convinced she would ive but a short time longer. I was at this time recom mended to try r. Rodgers' celebrated Syrup of Liver wort and Tar. With little or no hope, I procured a bot tle of the agent in this city, and upon returning I found my wife absolutely strangling with htr cough. I com menced giving her large doses a teaspoonful every hou- for forty-eight hours, which raised her as by a miracler 1 have since administered it in small doses, which has brought her to the use of her fourth bottle, and she is now doiug her house-work as usual. 1 have not the slightest doubt that she would have been in her' grave but for this valuable medicine; and 1 return my sincere thanks to the eminent inventor of it, and do most urgently recom mend all persons afflicted with any disease of the lungs to giveita trial Btivjarahi 311111 1 certify that mv husband's statement of my case above is strictly correct in every particular, and most cordially oin him in grateful thanks for the beneht 1 have derived srom his valuale medicine.
